I've been away for a while...  life certainly gets in the way..... raising a new puppy, loving the 65 lb puppy... working, small business working, and trying to find time for just me.

I come here and read alot lately... and I cry with every single post I see of losing our loving furbabies.. it breaks my heart with all of  you...  and brings back all the pain of losing my Franklin.. and my Maggie just this past September... it hurts...  alot.  I'm having a hard time with Maggie's loss lately... it's coming in waves.. and I just break down....   Don't get me wrong.. I am loving raising Annie and Wilson... but my heart still aches for my girlie girl....

I found this poem just this morning.. and I am not sure if I posted it before.. but I loved it.. and it made me smile.. even though my cheeks are wet.  Thought I would share....  perhaps make those that have lost recently, smile a little with me....

FROM FRIEND TO FRIEND

You're giving me a special gift,
So sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
Your courage makes me proud.

But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
And understanding earthly acts
Will only be in vain.

So looking deep into your eyes,
Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic, that will
Once more make me whole.

The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
For it's the only way.

That strength is why I've followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I've loved you all these years...
My partner 'til the end.

Please, understand just what this gift,
You're giving, means to me,
It gives me back the strength I've lost,
And all my dignity.

You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right,
For I believe it too.

So one last time, I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
The courage that's within you,
To now grant me this appeal.

Cut the leash that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog,
My pain and struggle done.

And don't despair my passing,
For I won't be far away,
Forever here, within your heart,
And memory I'll stay.

I'll be there watching over you,
Your ever faithful friend,
And in your memories I'll run,
...a young dog once again.

Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Diagnosed 09/26/2012 with Osteosarcoma, amputated 12/4/2012.  Had a wonderful 5 1/2 months painfree until he ran for the Bridge on 5/15/2013.  Always in my heart, and always a guardian angel of my pack...   You can follow his Tripawd Adventures, before and after, in my blog, Frank'n'Farter!

Thank you so much Christine for posting this.  On Monday I had to say goodby to my faithful Ollie my loving companion of almost 17 years.  Having just lost Max to osteosarcoma in January, and now Ollie has just devastated me.  This poem helps my heart catch up to the mind knowledge that we did the right thing for both of them.  You have brought a smile to my face along with tears too and I thank you for giving me exactly what I needed today.

Oh Christine, you always bring us such wisdom, such comfort. This is absolutely beautiful!

We miss you and think of you so often, especially when that smiling Franklin's banner shows up! I know it's jard ro be here, especially after losing Maggie too. Even when you aren't "visible" here, your presence, your vivid painting of life at the Bridge, the beautiful words of comfort you share with us, the delightful stories of Franklin and Maggie....yeah....your presence is ALWAYS felt.

And. now Ollie jas become another of "April's Angels". I know this poem brings Linda comfort today, as it does all of us. Linda, this is just too much hurt for you right now so soon after Max. I jave it from good authority at the Bridge though that the reunion between Max and Ollie was quite noisy and rambunctious! They were so happy to see each other! And yes, ice cream was served BEFORE their steaks!

With love to yiu both...

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Oh, Christine, I've been away for awhile, too.  Have done some quick browsing without signing in, but spent a little time catching up tonight.  And just read the poem. I hadn't seen it before; thank you for sharing it here.  I know it speaks to everyone here who carries that loss, and I'll pass it on to a friend who recently followed down that path.  Sending you warm thoughts.  And hugs to all.
