Ahhh, lately it seems every time I go to sit down at the computer SOMETHING pulls me away. The joys of having 6 dogs.

Well the staples come out in 2 hours ahhhhh.  I think new ones go right back in though. I will update you when we get home.

Mr Mr went for his first pack walk the other day.  He was on lead and it was an easier walk.  He eventually got annoyed that he was on lead and no one else was so he got to go off lead  (he may be small but hes a terrier)  I kept him from running TOOOOOO much but again hes a terrier and they run lol.  He didnt get any additional bruising or anything so YAY.  When we got home he slept it was really nice.  We got pictures but they are on a friends camera lol.

Overall We are so happy the surgery was done (I did fight with the decision! We made the appointment and I thought about cancelling it many times, had more nightmares about what could go wrong, had nightmares about him just deciding never to walk again ect.  I worry its what I do lol)  So far its just like having a 4 legged dog that moves funny.  I do worry a bit more about him then I do the other dogs, but thats ALWAYS been the case.

Also if I get upset with him for any reason he really LIMPS, makes it more noticeable.  When I am not upset with him you cant tell he is missing a leg.  Seriously, why do I have smart dogs?

Thankyou to everyone here for dealing with my crazy.

Well first off Quixote is a player.  He was in the vet waiting room area acting all terrified, yet the second they took him in the back and I was out of sight he was not scared any more.  THEY TOOK VIDEO, he was super friendly and taking treats ect the brat.

The vet removed half of his staples and gave the go ahead for off lead walks and hikes (treat him like he is 100% ).  We go in on the 10th to remove the remaining staples.

Best thing we could have done for him ever.  So happy.

I will see if I can get her to email it to me.  He is such a brat.  Doing great though. He fell twice on it today but the vet said thats to be expected and not to worry to much about it.  He recovers fast so I try no to worry.  (Worrying is a mothers job though right?!?!?!?!?!)  Right now hes sleeping in his crate

I'm glad the visit went well! Sorry he took a spill. Yep, it's pretty common but you can help him get stronger by building up his core muscles. Here are some tips:

Well he got the final staples removed on tuesday, so far so good.  He is running around like a normal dog, playing and having a good time.  He does seem to get tired faster but I think we will be able to build his stamina slowly.  We also start fly ball on Monday night....  YAY!

YAAAAAAAAAY FOR QUIXOTE!!!! Staples out and he's feeling great!

Yeah, being a tripawd does take a LOT of energy, so tiring quicker and needing more rest periods all part of the journey!

You know we HAVE to have flyball video, right!!??

He is a trooper, I think he likes to give me grey hair and heart attacks though.... He runs top speed playing with my 70lb dog, and he goes down really steep hills.  He has even started barking at me, when I say REEEAAAADY READY GOOOOOO! Which means hes allowed to run down and get his ball.  I think the most common command I use with him now is "Carefull" which means he is supposed to slow down.  I want a plastic bubble to put him in so he doesnt injure himself being crazy.

He doesnt mind the vet clinic that did the amputation thank fully.  He will NOT go into the vet clinic that did the first surgery though.  He is super happy and friendly.

I do have a worry though.  He was a 20 lb dog before the surgery, the leg weighed 1.5 lbs.  He went back up to 20 lbs shortly after the surgery but is now 14.5-15lbs the vet said to keep him this weight because of stress to the remaining back leg.  But that seems like a lot to lose in such a short time.  He is eating ect.  I am contemplating worming him even though hsi worm count came back clean.  :s  I think he is just trying to kill me prematurely.

Today Quixote decided it would be a great day to go hunting.  His brother flushed a rabbit from the briars and off the Jacks went in hot pursuit.  They didnt catch it but they had fun.  I had about a dozen heart attacks as Quixote ran in and out of the brambles.  Rabbits are feral and invasive here and as a result can be hunted with out permits at any time of the year with no bag limit.   He had a lot of fun just running and scaring me.  He is pretty good at moving around with out that leg.

Yes he has caught and killed rabbits before! My jacks are working dogs and get to hunt, although normally we hunt rats and other rodents that are a bother to local farmers! He has not been cleared to go back to work yet, but the vet has said fly ball is a go so I dunno lol
