He's so adorable! Sounds like he's doing really well! With the stitches out and the pain meds done, he should be raring to go!

(I can't remember for sure... I think Abby stopped her pain meds at either 10 or 12 days post op.)

Sounds like he is a normal, playful pup!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. wow im really late to say welcome. Shine is adorable and just about the same age as our girl Kayla was when she had her front leg amputated over a year ago. (12wks) you will be amazed at what shine is capable of doing in a few weeks/months Kayla uses her missing leg to her advantage these days :-) One good thing about losing a leg sooo young is that the adapt pretty quickly though it will still take time to build up stamina etc.

Good luck

Sarah

I've been reading up on little Shine.  Wow what a story!  What a trooper!  How you doing, mom?  You seem to freak out a bit, but I'd be doing the same thing!  Is he knuckling anymore?  He sure sounds like he's coming along great (and you are too)!  Keep us posted on your cute little fur ball!

Jackson was off pain meds 1.5 weeks post amp.  His personality started to come back then.  What a joy!!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Just been reading Shine's story -- and what a beautiful pup!!  Our dog, Buddy, had his front leg amputated because he had a wound on his paw that would not heal.  He was about a year old.  He has done wonderfully and gets along well.  You'll be amazed by your miracle puppy.

Welcome!

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone!

fetchon3- I definitely tend to freak out...A LOT a bit..lol. I just worry about my baby! He is no longer knuckling his front paw. :) He is walking around everywhere now! Turning back into a playful puppy...who loves to chew! :) But, we were expecting that... My boyfriend and I are so grateful that Shine is still here with us!

buddyzito- Thanks for the welcome and great to hear success from a young dog! :)

Michelle-Thanks! You finally got to see a picture of him! :) I hope Sassy is doing well! I'm not sure if I told her Happy Ampuversary!

Sarah & Kayla- It's so hard to see them in pain when they are so little, isn't it? But once they get going again there is no stopping them! :) Thanks for the welcome! In what ways does Kayla use her missing leg to her advantage? I look forward to reading some about her when I get the time! :)

AngelAbbysmom-My Mom's Scottish Terrier is a quadpawd and her name is also Abby. How long ago did she cross the Rainbow Bridge? We also had another Scottish Terrier that was shot when he was 10 (this has been many years ago) He became a Tripawd and lived to be 15. He got along great with his 3 little legs. That always gives me hope for Shine! Although he is a larger breed.. so I am concerned about his joint health as he gets older. SO excited about no more stitches!

I'll start a different forum when we get news from the vet today. Thanks everyone!

So happy to hear how great Shine is doing!!!

Right hind limb amputated 7/3/12 for OSA, started on alternating cycles of Carboplatin and Doxorubicin and oral Palladia. Single lung met 9/1. Met in the neck muscle removed 9/30. Large mass in sublumbar lymph node 10/2. Rescue chemo with ifosfamide 10/6. Mets to the rib and axillary lymph node 10/21. Started Leukeran and Pred 10/25.
