Yesterday, some friends and I found a black lab stuck in a trap and took him to an emergency vet.  The docs stabilized him overnight and amputated his front left leg this morning.  We've got other pets, but we're new to the three-legged concept.  Any advice is greatly appreciated!  We're hoping to bring him home from the hospital tomorrow!  Poor little guy was a stray, so not only did they have to take his leg, but they neutered him as well.

Here's his group: https://www.fac.....905081852/

and a site we set up to help raise money for his costly emergency weekend surgery: http://www.gofu.....com/2324ps

Hi there, welcome to the Tripawds community! Thank you for saving this dog and giving your sweet pup a great home. What a lucky pup!

One of the first places we recommend that people go is Jerry's Required Reading List . You'll find lots of information there about caring for a three-legged dog. And of course the community here is great too, you'll find tons of helpful tips from members.

Before he comes home, be sure to slip-proof your floors. Add throw rugs and make sure that there aren't any places he can hurt himself. While a three-legged dog isn't much different than a quadpawd, there are things you can do to make his life easier, safer and free from joint problems as he ages.

I hope you guys get your vet bills covered. Please keep in mind that the Tripawds Member Fundraising Policy doesn't allow direct soliciting of members here but you can always feel free to share his Facebook URL and of course start your own Tripawds blog!

Thanks so much for joining, we look forward to following along with your adventures. Oh have you named him yet?

Welcome from Tupelo. Anywhere nearby? We could probably contribute supplies and whatnot.

Hey!  We're from Columbus actually.  I think that's about an hour away.  And to reply to the other post, we named him Tripod :)
