Oh gosh, I am so sorry to hear this. At least the Dr is positive, hold onto that.

We will hold Layla in our thoughts and prayers, that she will come through this.

Many Hugs

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Thank you very much. He said since she is so young she should pull through, its just hard to see such a sweet innocent creature suffering. She is truly taking this like a champ. Tomorrow they are going in and cutting more skin away and try to get rid of the infection. she doesn't believe it has spread further. He said whatever skin they have to get rid of they will just pull her skin tighter to make up for..luckily she is skinny and has extra skin!

Awww I'm sorry! Hang in there though, infections are not all that uncommon and I'm confident she will bounce back from this. She has her age and spunk on her side, so keep your paws crossed and so will we. Keep us posted!

We went through a very similar situation.  After the amputation (on Aug 29 - only 5 weeks ago), Jake's surgery site continued to puss and ooze. he had open sections of the surgery site.  We returned to the vet only to be told he needed a second surgery to remove dead muscle and skin.  Jake had drainage tubes protruding from the sutures.  Then he developed a staph infection.  I flushed the site with an iodine wash three times a day.  Finally, it all stopped.  The swelling went down, bruising subsided.

Last weekend we took Jake camping!  Yes, camping!  He ran! Yes, ran! Chased rabbits, lizards, the kids, the wind, the waves of the water!

Jake and I send our thoughts to Layla for her recovery.

Wow Jake sounds like an amazing dog! I am hoping for a speedy recovering for my girl! To read your story has lifted a weight off of my shoulders thank you so much! Granted not all dogs are the same, but I shared Jake's story with my family and we are all a little more at ease! I wish nothing but the best for Jake and I am hoping that we can get there with Layla. I feel like we have a long road ahead of us, but I just know she can do it! Thank you so much for shedding light on our dark time. I will hear from the vet tomorrow and let everyone know what is going on!

Thanks to all from,

Haley and Layla!

I'm sorry to hear about the infection! We have seen dogs here fight off the infection and go on to do well. I hope it will be that way for your sweet girl.

Sending pawsitive thoughts out to you and to her!
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

I am so glad Jake's story is a comfort to your family.  He is just amazing.  Through it all, he's attitude and chrisma has shinned through.  Tomorrow he has his second test (three are required) to become Nevada's First Tri-Pawed Therapy Dog!   Keep us informed of Layla's progress.

Well heard from the vet today...sadly things did not go as planned...Surgery is done, but they had to take a lot more skin/tissue than they expected...plus they had to leave some infected tissue because it was going up into the chest cavity. They are keeping her until the end of the week and are going to flush out the areas regularly and keep antibiotics pumping into her. They hope that will kill the other infected tissue and regenerate the missing tissue. They said on a better note the throwing up has stopped and the smell seems to be better. They are keeping her to see if things open back up, and sadly if they do it looks like we may run out of options, money is extremely tight and our vet has actually offered to take in layla as his "project", so that is a blessing. I'm hoping we don't have to make a hard choice at the end of the week. Can't wait to see my baby!

Whoohoo!  Come on, Layla - you can pull through this one!!

Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.

He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.

Videos and pics of Gerry's pawesomeness can be found at: http://gerry.tripawds.com
