My gorgeous 12 year old had to have her front leg amputated due to chronic muscle wastage. We'd tried 2 months of hydrotherapy first but it made no difference, then we were referred to a specialist who did an mri and said the best course of action was amputation. Unfortunately there was a mix up with samples and none got sent off to histology so we are still in the dark as to the root cause. However they have offered her another mri (which she's having next week) and she is so much happier hopping around on 3 legs ….I think the hydrotherapy gave her a headstart as it's only been 2 1/2 months since the op!!

I now have another worry though that she seems to have a gammy eye…..the lower lid is starting to droop and it looks a little swollen……has anyone else encountered this? The vet said either a tooth infection (antibiotics haven't done anything) or neurological………which I'm starting to worry about. I didn't know if it could be anything to do with not being able to clean that eye??

Hi Peppy and family, welcome! I'm glad you posted and as I said in the chat I have no idea what could be going on but hopefully others her will have insight for you. What kind of specialist (if any) have you seen? I'm wondering if this is an age related thing, or maybe a mild stroke?

Glad to hear Peppy is doing well otherwise. Senior Tripawds are especially amazing!

She's just had her mri. The eye problem is horners syndrome which is associated with the abnormal nerve. .....which unfortunately is still growing. They've taken a spinal fluid sample and needle aspiration to see what it is. Still hoping it's just inflammation. She said it's unusual if a tumour because 2 nerves are affected and it's growing in the wrong direction. Not feeling too positive at the moment. Will hopefully find out tomorrow, ,meanwhile have got steroids for her eye. Been a roller coaster of a day emotionally.

Okay now, deeeeeeep breath...........B R E A T H E

Peppy doesn't care about another diagnosis and she isn't going to let it stop her from soaki g up all the loving and spoiling you're givng her.

What plan has the vet suggested? I know your head is spinning right now, but have you thought about a holistic approach? Complimentary therapy? A specialist consult? There are several daily pills that have tumor shrinking capabilities...Piroxicam is one that comes to mind.

Right nlw Peppy is feeling good and enjoying quality time full of joy just being withyou. Let NOTHING rob you of this time together, okay? She's with you inthe here and now and not going anywhere anytime soon!

We would LOVE to see more pictures of her. The avatar picture is precious...but we need more!clap There are links on here that will tell you how topost.

After you get your head cleared and get in a grounded state, talk the options over with your vet and, if you haven't already done so, maybe a consult with a specialist.

Sending you lots of hugs...for you and Peppy both!! Now go do something that makes Peppy wag and wiggle with joy! Love her "white socks" by the way!

Keep us posted. We are here for you, o,ay? We care!

Oh no I'm really sorry to hear that. What kind of tumor? Do they know? Try not to panic until you know exactly what you are dealing with. I know it's so hard but we're here for you to lean on.

Meanwhile here are instructions for adding images to your post. If that doesn't work just email me and I will post it for you. Can't wait to see some!

http://peppypoo.....ry-so-far/

I managed to start a blog!! Actually quite therapeutic as I was having a real down day but looking through all my old pics of my baby made me smile big-grin

Got the letter with mri results technical terms….it's either malignant Schwann cell tumour or neurofibrosarcoma affecting 2 nerves………. won't know without further tests but we've decided not to go down that road….she's been through enough and it won't cure it…...so we're going with steroids and then pain relief if and when she needs it…..make each day count is my new motto!! But still sinking in if I'm truthful what-ever

Thanks for the messages of support x

I just read your blog- good job!

Sometimes it is as tough to make the no treatment decision as it is to decide to treat, so good job on that too.  The best course of action can be to not do aggressive treatment or tests.

make each day count is my new motto!!
