Hi Kodabear & family,

First, start here to get the most out of our community. Also you can search all blogs here to look for "cruciate" issues in dogs.

I'm sorry to hear your dog is in pain. Tell us more and we can help you better:

What is his/her age? Breed type? Have you seen a specialist and gotten other opinions?

Sorry I know I have more questions than answers but the more info you can provide the more insight we can offer. Stay tuned, more will chime in soon.

My Daisy didn't lose her leg because of a cruciate ligament tear but she did lose her leg to arthritis.  Her elbow joint was destroyed and she would never have been able to fully use her front leg due to the pain.  I had her leg amputated.  She was a big girl at 80 lbs with arthritis in her hips as well.  Because of the arthritis Daisy did not have the greatest mobility but she is not the norm.

My Biscuit lost a rear leg to an injury sustained from being caught in an animal trap.  He is small (only 17 lbs) and gets around like a champ.  Most people do not notice he is even missing a leg!

Please tell us more about your pup!
