I am adopting a 6 year old dachshund, that just had her left back leg amputated. Cause, the people who owned her tied a strig around her leg. Does anyone have a tripawd dachshund? The rescue says they will buy her a cart, not sure she will need it. I have a stroller ( I have 5 other doxies and a yellow lab). Can I get some feedback on the cart idea and what to expect? Thanks!
If she is getting around ok I really wouldn't use the cart because like quixote said, she is probably more likely to hurt herself by fighting against it.
Probably one of the most important things is keeping her nice and trim because (as I'm sure you know) doxies are prone to back issues with 4 legs let alone 3. Any extra weight will be very detrimental to her health.
Good luck!
Hey there and welcome! I just saw your comment on the blog and said:
You may want to read this article about wheelchairs and Tripawds. Also check out Jerry’s Required Reading List and our Tripawds e-books library too. Thanks for adopting this sweetie.
About the cart: I would only use one in consult with a rehab veterinarian to ensure it's fitted properly and the dog knows how to use it. It takes training. Seeing how Doxies are prone to spine issues it's definitely a good idea to build a working relationship wth a rehab vet. Here are some posts that explain why:

My little pug Maggie was a rear amp- she hopped happily through life for almost 4 years. Doxie's have a longer body though, I don't have experience with that.
I had a stroller for Maggie also. That way she could come on longer walks with us, and ride when she got tired.
Where in Nor Cal are you? We have a group that gets together in Mill Valley periodically. We may be meeting up in May.
