YAAAAAAAAAY FOR GEMMA!!!! She's out of surgery and probably seeing a lot of pink elephants right about now!!

We are here for any support we can offer you and Gemma.

One thing I suggest when you pick her up is to not even look at her incision. Just look into her druggy happy eyes and tell her what a good girl she is and soak up the kisses!

So happy surgery is over. I know you feel relieved!

Thanks for the update! Get a good night's sleep...Gemma sure is!!

Sending extra hugs and love!

spoke with our Vet, Gemma is up and about, eating well. showing signs of pain. but ambulating well. (like we hoped). they are massaging her three legs, and lasering where her amputation occurred to reduce pain and inflammation. they did ask us to wait and come see her though. (heart breaking) hope to bring her home wednesday or thursday.

Huge setback.

they were trimming Gemma's nails, and she decided to fight them as usual. for some unknown reason, in our Vet's words started "bleeding profusely" from her surgery site. it would not stop. they had to sedate her, and do emergency surgery to try and find source of bleeding. our Vet, says he is not going to sleep tonight. because he could not find the source. but the bleeding stopped. he told me that he opened up completely. going layer by layer. and vessel by vessel. she is now sedated. on blood replacement product and fluids. resting for the night. coming home has been delayed at least till thursday. we are worried even more now. crazy.  when the Vet uses the words profusely, I knew it was awful

Okay....deep breath......deep, deep breath. I knlw this is scary and certainly unexpected!

If it had to happen, it could not jave happened at a better place! Ahe is getting the best care possible! They were right on top of it!!! For s a varitey of different reasons, we jave seen rare situations here where it was necessarty to "go back in" and do more surgery. Yeah, it delays recovery a bit, but she'll bet past this hurdle!

That Gemma..what a fighter! She did NOT want to jave her nails trimmed...even in a druggy daze and right after major surgery! That feisty girl!!! I do wish they had done the nail trimmjng while she was still sedated though. Hindsight..great right?

Stay connected and PLEASE update us as soon as you can!! She's gonna be fine...shee one tough cookie...and so is her momma!!

Hang on! This is a challenge and Gemma doesn't seem like the type who backs down from challenges! And remember, she's seeing pink ele p hants again so she's sleeping just fine!

I know it will be hard to sleep. Could you fake a sneeze and a couple of coughs? Act like you have a cold and take some Nyquill? what-ever

We're all sending lawsitive tripawd power to Gemma...and that's a whole lot of healing energy!

And we're sendingnyou lots of hugs...and some tissues for your "cold"!

Love

Gemma is for sure a tough cookie! My heart is wrenching for you guys, it's all so fresh to us still and those first days are burned into my memory. Scout had to have a blood transfusion from a living donor dog because he bled out. She can kick this! Benny55 is right, Gemma is showing everyone how much of a fighter she is. You are doing everything right!

Hang in there! It's not too unusual and it sure sounds like you have an awesome vet who is on top of the situation, so that's fantastic. At least it happened while she was there and not at home. How much longer will she be there?

Try to breathe, she'll be all healed and better in no time. Keep us posted OK?

update, went by and visited today, they call her the tail wagging and happy to have attention dog. she is not thrilled with being in the small kennel, that is supposed to keep her comfortable and quiet. every time they open cage she charges out, silly dog. she was happy to see me, but laid her head in my hand on my lap and just stayed there. she had more bleeding from unknown sources today. blood work shows low but not critical numbers. still heavily medicated. incision looks good. but they have are really trying to figure out where the bleeds are from. as of now, Gemma not coming home till late friday. maybe later.

Oh gosh...I can breathe now! I was holding my breath, scared of what I would see since we hadn't heard from you all day!!

SOOOOO GLAD SHE IS WAGGING!! Such a great sign! And spunky enough to want to get out of her cage! YAY!!

Did they give you a plan of attack? So the blood is coming from the incision site?? Are there any specialists they can call?? I know she's a "mixed breed"...I wonder if there is something in her genetics that makes her susceptible to bleeding from surgery? Just throwing crazy ideas out there.

One more suggestion. We have a thread here called "Ask A vet". I would love to see you post over there and see what our Tripawd vet says.

It really is good to know that her attitude is good and she's already mobile! REALLY GOOD NEWS!! So glad you got to see her today. I know that did both of you a world of good!!

I know you have your hands full, but we really appreciate you takingnthe time tomupdate us! We're all cheering for you Gemma!! You now have your veey own Fan Club Family!! Come on girl, you've got this!!clap

Love and hugs!

Her attitude and zest just show how she will conquer this obstacle! So many dogs have complications and push through to have happy fulfilling QUALITY lives where they run and play and love just as they were meant to. Just remember these hard days will pass in no time. I can't wait to hear more updates and a round of applause for her! clapclapclapclapclap

spoke with Vet, says she Gemma is doing well. if no new issues, and doing well. if all continues will be allowed home tomorrow afternoon. no the concern about that. I have to work. my disabled husband cannot get her alone. trying to line up some one to go with him. ugh. on the bright side. her kennel is clean. and lots of comfortable, new to Gemma comfy blankets await to give her a plush place to lay down. her favorite toy is waiting. and lots of her favorite snacks for when she is ready. I miss her severely.
