Thanks for the heads up on sleep. I took a few days of work so I can be home and my husband is on vacation this week. I showed pictures to my son (Nikos best buddy) so he is a little more prepared. I have to admit I'm scared also.

Just want to add my supprt! We all understand SCARED!! Know that we are here for you!

Recovery can be a bit rough. As far as the Incision site, you'd be amazed at how soon you will forget Niko even had a fourth leg...especially once the fur has grown back!

Stay connected! Eat lots of CHOCOLATE! Update when you can!

Hugs!

That is excellent that you have a few days off and your husband is home this week...it will be a big emotional support for Niko and also for your own peace of mind to be with Niko for the first days he is home.  It is hard initially to see a little dog you love without a leg and with a big incision area, but it is so important to stay as normal and upbeat around Niko as possible for his sake.  And, don't be surprised if some days seem better than others ...it is typical to have little bumps in the road as recovery progresses.

Sending you loads of good thoughts and prayers for a fast and happy recovery for Niko.

Niko is home!!! He's getting around like nothing happened, probably because he had on the splint for weeks prior and was used to only having 3 good legs. He's resting and seems comfortable so I'm thankful for that. I look forward to him being able to play again. It's been a long 6 weeks with lots of praying that his broken leg would heal but God had another plan. Niko may be blind and he might have 3 legs but he's got such a love of life 💕💕💕 and if he doesn't look at it as a sad or bad thing then neither will I. Thanks again!

Niko did GREAT last night! He seemed to rest comfortable all night,he's in his crate in my bedroom and he didn't make a peep. My standard poodle was having a dream and was making noise thought it was Niko and scared me lol, silly dogs.

That is awesome that he is doing well!!  It does our soul good when we see them without any more pain!

But, we have to remember.. Nikko has had MAJOR surgery.. and we do need to keep these happy puppies on a quiet time for about 2 weeks to allow for healing etc... you don't want them to get too energetic too soon.. My vet warned me that there were many arteries etc that were cut and stitched, and we didn't want one of those to break!

We kept our Franklin in the tv room for the first 10 days.. and yes.. we slept on the couch with him...  we spent lots of movie time on the couch so that he wasn't running all over the house.  It was hard on us to be less acvtive too.. lol

Share some pictures of that cute pup!!  We love pictures!!

We took Niko's bandage off yesterday and he instantly started licking it. I went to the vets office and got a cone which he hated. I called the vet and asked if we could put a shirt on him and they said yes. So far the shirt is working. Other than that Niko has done great!

YAAY Niko!

If he's only wearing that shirt, keep a close eye on him. Many Tripawds have chewed right through it. I know the cone is no fun but it does prevent a lot of problems. I hope Niko will be a good pup and not do anything naughty! Keep us posted.
