Ditto Sahana..WONDERFUL JOB INDEED!!!clap

Great update today...just great!! You seem to have a good handle on things! Glad he's eating and drinking!

Isn't seeing his sparkle come back and doing some ofnhis "normal" things THE best feeling??? He may still have a few ups and downs before everything is consistently "sparkle" non stop, but it sounds like ,Bentley is wel on the road to recovery.
!clap

YAAAAAAAAAY FOR ICE CREAM FLAVORED WATER!! My Happy Hannah trained me really well along those lines. It was weeks before she finally "agreed" to xrinking plain water without ice cream!way-cool

Wow he's AMAZING! That's really cool to hear. I agree that spacing pain medication out is better as long as your vet is aware. It's always easier to stay ahead of the pain with prevention than to try to get rid of it once it starts. Good job!!!

Oh and that canned food should get things moving.

Bentley is so lucky to have you guys, what a great pack!

There is one thing that has been bothering me since we brought him home. His incision isn't covered with a wrap or anything it's just out an exposed. The vet said to leave it like that so it breaths. Is this normal? I just feel like it's so exposed.

When my Leland came home his amputation site was not bandaged but he was a rear leg amp so there really isn't a way to bandage them.  For front leg amps I've seen pictures on here where people put a t-shirt over the site and actually Gilda's mom had created a wrap of sorts from an old pair of tights/stockings.  I'll have to go back and see if I can find that forum posting and attach it so you can take a look.

I think the main thing you need to keep watch for is that Bentley doesn't start licking/chewing at the site.  I think that's one of the main reasons people try to keep them covered.

I'm sure somebody that has experience with front leg amps will jump in and give you their thoughts.

The sight is also bleeding a little bit, which the vet also said was normal. I just don't want the staples to get caught on something. I'm terrified he's gonna accidently rip one out. He hasn't tried to mess with the spot at all, they did sent us home with a cone to put on him if he does start to though. I know I'm probably just over thinking! I just wanted some other people's opinions.

Yes. Most dogs will go home without a bandage. We have interviewed many vets, and some have even said they put a bandage on more for the people than for the dog!

YAAAAAAAAAY FOR FIRST POOP!!!!! POOPING PAWTY TIME!!!clapclap

My Happy Hannah did NOT have any covering either. She never licked or bit at her incision so I never had to use the cone either.

A little seepage from the incision site is normal. If it starts oozing alot or has a strong smelly odor, then you'll want to get it checked to make sure there is n o infection. Some swelling and bruising is normal too at first.

Now, back to the POPPING PAWTY!! GOOD JOB BENTLEY!! :-)

Hugs to all!

We were so excited we did a happy dance when he finished!! I was kind of surprised at how quickly he went, I thought it would take a few days but he just ran right to his favorite popping spot and went!

We did decide to put a tshirt on him tonight while he sleeps. He hasn't tried to mess with his incision at all, but last night I stayed up most of the night keeping an eye on him just to make sure and tonight I need to get a little sleep. He hates the cone so I thought we would try a tshirt. Better to be safe than take the chance on him messing with it. Although I don't think he enjoys the shirt much more than the cone.

Bentley had his post opp check up with his vet this morning and he said he is doing fantastic! They said for a front leg ampute he is walking really well already and even running a little bit! He gets to go back in 2 weeks to get his stitches out. He even drank out his water bowl this morning all on his own, no ice cream needed!

I just wanted to let everyone know how thankful we are for all the advice and support! :)

Love baby Bentley and mom.

That would be awesome, do you happen to have her email address? I've been trying to post one but just can't seem to get it to work. I've tried to upload one off all of my devices at home but it keeps telling me that I don't have access to upload one. I've tried everything! :(
