He needs to quit doing these things. We left both dogs in the house this afternoon while we picked the car up at the mechanic. We may havee been gone a half hour max. When we got home, Gus met us at the door, but no Murphy. He was laying between the couch and coffee table, wagging his tail at us, but wouldn't get up. Garry helped him to his feet, but he wouldn't put any weight on his back foot. We called our vet ony to find out that he was out on a farm call and wouldn't be back in the office until around eight tonight.

We had to load him into the car and go to WestVet in Boise (an hour from home) to see the emergency doctor. He feels that Murphy sprained/strained his knee, so he put him on Rimadyl and Tramadol and said he would need be quiet for a whole week!! How will he ever do that? He is now back in the little pen in the living room until he feels better. Sniff....whine...etc...

We had a call waiting from our local vet when we got back. He was checking up on how Murphy was doing. He felt that he would have taken the same approach given the way the exam turned out. They are also faxing the report to our orthopedic vet, and we will talk with him on the phone tomorrow.

So for now the patient is snoozing away quite comfortably in his drugged state.

Kathi and Murphy

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Oh Murphy!

Quit scaring your Mom and Dad.  And what could you possibly have done in less than 30 minutes?

Good Luck keeping him quiet Kathi....perhaps some green beans are in order :)

Hugs and wishes for a quick recovery

Thanks, Linda and Michelle. He spent a quiet night in the little pen. Didn't wake up at all. He went outside with Garry this morning and did his business. Then practically pulled his poor Dad across the lawn to get back into the house for his cookie. He's had his breakfast and drugs, so things should be somewhat quiet around here for a bit. You can tell he is still favoring the leg, but not like last night. It will take a few days before we can tell if it is just the drugs or if he is really on the mend.

I think this weekend's camping trip probably isn't going to happen.

Oh boy, Jill. Would Murphy ever be put in his place with a kitty telling what for! I will let him know that you said he has to behave himself.

And Sally...two times this morning Hannah's banner has come up, which is a great card to start the day. Murphy is resting comfortably and is putting more weight on the foot today.

Phone just rang, and it is his rehab vet checking on him.

Thanks for everyone's concern.

I'm glad Murph is feeling a bit better today.  Oh what we wouldn't give to have them be able to talk and tell us what happened.  Murph has just used up his allotment for scares for a month or two! :)

Amy & Spirit Libby

Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13.  Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Sounds like Murphy is doing as well as he can and really bounced back after the latest mishap. I'm sure it's harder on you than on him! Hope you can keep him quiet to recover fully.

Well, Murphy thinks he is back to normal today. He is actually doing great, but still has to be quiet for several more days. The weather is so nice that he wants to be outside, so I set up his second little pen out there. He tries to drag me all over the yard and we have to make him stop doing laps in the pen at dinner time. I think that by the time he goes in to the rehab vet on Monday or Tuesday, he will be pretty much back. She will probably give us a new set of exercises to work on.

You are right, though. Amy. He has used up his scare allotment.

Thanks to everyone for the good thoughts.

Oh I'll bet Murphy is just itchin' to get back to normal! That's so hard to keep a dog like him quiet, he's such an energetic boy. Glad he's going to rehab next week, but that's a long way away now that it's spring and he's rearin' to go. Silly pup.

Take it EASY Murph!!!
