I currently live in Louisiana, but I adopted my newest 3-legged family member from a shelter in Alabama back in May.  His former name was "stumpy" which I did not find amusing and quickly changed it to Bear after the late Alabama Coach Bear Bryant.  Bear was dumped in the middle of the night and tied to the back fence at a shelter in Bay Minette.  The shelter posted his picture on the FB page of the rescue for whom I volunteer.  I had just lost one of my other rescue Beagles to cancer so when I saw his picture I knew that his forever home needed to be with me.  Bear's right hind leg is gone below the "knee" and I was told by the vet that it was probably due to an accident.    I look forward to gaining as much knowledge as I can from this website so that I can keep Bear healthy and happy for many years to come.

Welcome to Tripawds, your future posts will not have to wait for approval.

Congats on the addition to your pack, although I am sorry you lost one to cancer.

We will have to see pictures of Bear, Here is how you add Photos.

Since you have had Bear since May you already know how well they do.  You should check out the Gear Blog for ideas on keeping Bear strong and active. Look for the post Tags for Exercise and Fitness.

Awww welcome! Thank you for adopting this pup, Bear definitely won the lotto. When it comes to keeping him fit, be sure to check out the Tripawds conditioning book, Loving Life on Three Legs, and also we are having an online Tripawds Fitness and Conditioning Course in February, we hope you will join us!

Our Tripawds Spokesdawg Wyatt Ray had an original name of "Chopper," which we thought was kinda gnarly too so I get why you changed his name. Bear is much nicer!

Can't wait to see photos, let us know if you'd like help posting them.
