We've had Rosco for about a month now. He is a front leg amputee (from injury) and has been yelping quite a bit. He was just laying on the sofa, on the amputation side and out of nowhere started yelping. We took him to the vet a couple days ago and she didn't see anything she found concerning and thought it could be phantom limb pain. She gave us Carproxen to give every 12/24 hrs or as needed to see if it would help. I've been giving it to him as needed but I'm thinking I may need to give it to him every 12. She also said that when he was found his whole arm/shoulder area had atrophied, suggesting the rubber band had been there awhile (you can still see there is no muscle tone around the bone that is left) and she thought that may be contributing to pain as he's starting to build some muscle back. We have also noticed that Rosco yelps whenever he is scared, so I think it may be a combination of pain and getting really scared when it hurts. It breaks my heart when he yelps, especially just from fear, and I swear I just want to go find whoever it was that did this to him and kick their ass!!  Even though this is my 3rd tripawd, Jake had just a little bit of phantom limb pain and Tanner was completely healed when we adopted him. Rosco's amputation was March 6th and he was on pain meds for about 2 weeks. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to help him? I'm thinking of maybe getting a farabloc blanket, does anyone have any experience with that? I'm open to any suggestions anyone may have.

Thank you!

Awww...hate to hear sweet Roscoe is hurting. I know its hard to see this sweet little soul jave pain and fear. All I can say is thank doG you are his forever home! To think this innocent defenseless little guy had to endure cruelty just sickens me.

I seriously wouldn't be surprised if he had a bit of animal PTSS. Everytime he feels the pain or afraid, he feels the fear that the traumatic way he was treated is happening all over again.

I jave no real insight, just want to send you some love!!! I do think that farabloc .makes sense. I think Wyatt nas used it..Jerry will chime in on that. I remember reading about it here in the site and I thought about ordering it for Happy Hannah AND myself for my own aches and pains!

You didn't really do this post without a picture of Roscoe and Tanner, did you? Surely you jest!!! I'll keep checking back for PIIIIICCCCTTTURRRRESSSS!!!!

Love always!

Such and adorable pair! Just loving this!

Now we're talking!!! Honest to good goodness, Roscoe already looks more fit and more healthy than those first early pictures.

And yes Tanner, you look more and more handsome everyday!

THANKS ELIZABETH! You picked up on the "hint" very quickly!!!

Gabapentin is what we used for Daryl. Still not sure whether his pain was from his hips or phantom pain . We were told Gabapentin is good as it is for nerve pain. I am wondering, if it is in fact Phantom Pain , maybe he is not only feeling the amp. Pain, but also still feeling the pain from the rubber band on his leg. The brain is a funny thing, it does not yet know the leg or rubber band is gone. That is how Daryl would do, just suddenly start yelping. Poor Lucy, I kept blaming her for picking on him. She was always in the area, when he yelled. Now, I know she was just concerned.  Still do not know how anyone could harm that adorable little guy. Heat may help also. BTW, enjoying your Facebook page a lot!  Lori, Ty & gang

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed  and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

Poor Rosco.... I don't have any advice either ... Shelby didn't have phantom pain so I don't know what to do about it. But Lori's thoughts make sense ... could be the reminder of the rubberband ... and I'm with you! I'll get out there and help you kick some ass!!!

BTW - Jasper and I love the FB page too and the photos!!! Jasper might get her own FB page. I think my FB friends are sick of Jasper photos all the time! LOL

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

ELIIIIIIIZZZZZABETH! I never thought I'd saynthis...I think I just fell in love with Facebooker!!

Those pictures just gave me a huge stupendous smile across my mug!!! If anybosy ever needs an attitude adjustment, just click on this link!

I love the "stink eye" Roaco gives when you don't take him to the park. And sitting in his little baby basket for his ride to the vets...PRECIOUS! I love Tanners ears and I love how he squints his eyes when he's basking in the sun. And the way you paid tribute to Jake in such a lovely way. His photo reflects his inner peace and a very wise Spirit.

It was great fun taking a tour of your "family album"...and I look forward to visiting this smile maker quite often!

Love you my friend!

Oh so cute, love those pups! Sorry Rosco is having pain.

So I'm curious why the vet gave Carproxen if s/he thinks it could be phantom pain ?

Have you been to a rehab therapist yet? I'm thinking that would be a good place to start. Regular massages and gentle stretching does wonders.

I love our Farabloc blanket, I stole it from Wyatt. It works great on easing my migraines and headaches, a regular thing, although I look like a total dweeb with it wrapped around my head!  Combined with massage and rehab I think that Rosco should feel relief from it too.

I was wondering the same thing Jerry about prescribing Carproxen but she also mentioned the muscle atrophy issue. Great idea on the rehab, I hadn't even thought about that. I'll look into it.

Glad you guys like their FB page...Alison that was one of the reasons I started their page, they were taking over mine lol
