Reggie is home! He didn't get here until 8:00, and it was a nightmare trying to get the kids to bed.
They are SO excited. I will start working on his blog tomorrow. He is currently resting in his crate, ready for bed.
So he goes up stairs fine, but seems timid going down. We are thinking of just keeping him downstair, where most of us are til bedtime anyway. Advice? How well are other Tripawds able to go down stairs? I was too nervous to let him try, so I carried him back down.
He had a great time claiming our backyard as his own. I will get some video tomorrow when the light is better. I don't know how anyone wouldn't love this dog…..he has already stolen our hearts.

OfflineOh, it's Friday! Let the kids and Reggie stay up all night and pawty! So thrilled for you guys and delighted for Reggie! Post some pictures of him with the children, please. I love those!
Dakota is a front amputee, 9 1/2, arthritis in the shoulder area. He's also 75 pounds. He is very timid going downstairs. He scares the crap out of me because I insist that he be on the stairs alone, and he refuses to let me go first (I want to go first to stop him if he falls). Consequently, he goes halfway down, stops, turns around to look at me, scares me, stumbles, finally makes it. Why does he have to turn it into such a dramatic event?
Enjoy your weekend with your new family!

OfflineHooray for Reggie being at home! Doggy Lotto winner! Can't wait for the pics and vid!
As for the stairs, we moved in December and have no stairs now, but Abby (a front leg amp) did have to deal with stairs for a month and a half, post-amp. At first, right after her surgery, I would insist on her waiting for me and I'd walk down with her in a sling. (she's 45 lbs, so not easy for me to just pick up and carry downstairs). Within a couple of weeks though, she was charging down the stairs ahead of me with no problem. Are your stairs carpeted? That helps give some grip. Abby is very tall, so I wonder if Reggie's short stature makes the stairs seem a little daunting?
Don't know if that helps at all, but I hope he adjusts well to the stair situation and can't wait to hear more about how he's doing with your family!
All the best,
Jackie, Abby's mom

Hi again!
So I have decided that I am a failure at the blog function. I keep clicking on my dashboard to go to my blog and get started, but can't figure it out. i even watched the tutorials. My screen from wordpress doesn't really look exactly like the one shown in the tutorials, although I have to admit I've enjoyed listening to the guy with the accent in those videos! I'l try again with a set of fresh eyes and patience soon.
Reggie is good. He had a busy weekend, and after 48 hours with us finally ate and drank "normally" tonight. I know it takes them a while to feel comfportable in a new house. Everything was "coming up roses" until he stood up and pooped
by my front door a little bit ago while I was upstairs putting the kids to sleep. My husband stopped him in the middle and brought him to the back yard where he finished his "business." To be fair to him, his stool was very soft, and I am not sure how much control he had, since he is still recovering from his heartworms. To be fair to my husband, who witnessed it all, he had just been outside with Reggie an hour earlier.
Does anyone use a KONG for crate time? I gave him a little peanut better today when we left him for a few hours. How often can they have treats like that, and did I unknowingly set him up for digestive failure?
BTW, Reggie is a pro at going up and down the stairs now. He takes them a little fast on the way down, but his front leg is really strong. I have just taught the kids to get out of his way quick when he starts to make his move!
Anyway, I am going to try to figure out how to put a video up here so everyone can see him while I work on the blog situation. My kids had a blast walking him around. I am enjoying the honeymoon period, where they fight over who "gets to walk Reggie" instead of "who has to walk Reggie."
Overall, I will rate weekend #1 a success.

Just missed you in the chat and sent you a PM. You are not a failure! You're screen is different because you didn't create a blog when you signed up.
Click the Join link in the main navigation menu at the top of any page to start your blog in minutes. Then those tutorials should look familiar.
The easiest way to share videos is to upload them to YouTube first. Then all you have to do is paste the view page URL (the YouTube page where you view the video) on a line by itself and the movie will automatically embed.

OfflineThat's wonderful news about how well Reggie is doing!
We have used Kongs in crates. Here's a trick Isabelle's mom gave me…
Mix water and can food (keep it mostly water, so there aren't a ton of calories) and freeze that in a kong. It will last a whole lot longer!
I use tupperware small bowls too but my dog is old enough to not chew the bowl up.
Is there a sexy voice on the tutorials I don't know about? Dang, I should have started a blog two years ago!
Comet - 1999 to 2011She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

OfflineYea! He is at his furever home!
Look at those kiddos, they look so happy too
Sounds like he will be fine and once he learns the rhythms and routines of the family,
he will be a great dog.
Sometimes loose stools reflect just a touch of nervousness or a little stress.
After a while things should be working good.
For crate time, I use an Everlasting dog treat ball, and half an elkhorn chew, and a plush toy.
All for the appropriate size of the dog. They only get these treats at crate time and not any other time.
I love Kongs and always forget to fill them or run out of time before I have to leave the house.
Get him a Kong Wobbler for when he is out of the crate.
Tripawds do the most creative tricks to get the treats out!
I hope you all make lots of happy memories!
