Welcome and congratulations to you all!!!  Been holding my breath for your great news!  Sounds like you'll be able to manage the new siblings just fine; just be patient.  What a couple of mugs!

Will be thinking of you bringing home your new boy tomorrow; Sally will be asking you to post pics as soon as possible!

You couldn't ask for a better support group for your family; these folks have gotten me through the last almost-5 months.

The article seems to only involve tripawds who have already known their brother/sister before the amputation.

How exciting for you all! Here's a fun tripawds podcast that will help:

Congrats!

Frankly, since he seems well-adjusted and healthy, and their meeting on neutral ground went okay (i.e. no overt dominance/aggression issues), I'd probably handle the acclimatization process like I would with any two new sibling dogs. Be vigilant and aware, but not freaky-deaky obsessive--whether it's 2 or 1.75 dogs, some things are pretty similar in that regard :D

What CUTE smooshy faces they are!!

OMG, Gus is gorgeous!  Thank you for caring enough to give him a special home.

I have bully breeds and have done the introduction thing twice.  The first time I brought a new 4 year old male into our home with Trouble our then 11 year old tripawd.  We kept Duke crated for two weeks, giving them time to accept the other was in the house but not having to interact with one another. I took Duke out several times a day to have quality time with us, but didn't allow the two of them together.  By the time the two weeks was up, they were good friends. We never had a problem with either of them.

A year or more later, Trouble had passed and we adopted a 9 month old bully mix puppy.  We back to the 2 week time out. Hubby got a bit anxious with the puppy having to be crated and introduced them in person about the end of the first week.  All has been well.

Good luck with your new addition and sending good thoughts for a quick acclimation into their new lives together.

Okayyy so Munson is home!! No problem with introduction, absolutely no aggression what so ever- but my 7 year old, Fenway, just ignores Munson, acknowledges him, but looks at him like please just leave me alone, I want to goto sleep. Fenway's tail was cropped and Munson's is not. In the past 24 hours poor Fenway has been whacked so many times in the face! But the crate thing has not worked. Less than 24 hours ago I have brought Munson home- He does not like the crate, he cries, howls, barks like the world is ending. So while I'm at work this evening I'm separating them with a very sturdy baby gate . Even if my other half is in the house, and I run out to get something out of the care, Munson cries and cries and cries some more. I am trying to divert his attention away from me, but I feel like I just hatched a baby duck, and he looked at me as mommy. I can't move without Munson moving, I can't be out of his sight for more that a few seconds. I have to goto work tonight so he has really no choice. I'm hoping all goes well when I get home- They will be alone for approx 5 hours. Wish us luck :) Will be posting pictures, ect soon as I get  everyone under a schedule here- it's been a little crazy ;) Thanks everyone!

Oh how fun! Yeah, the crate thing is a tough hurdle to overcome especially when one dog is crated and the other isn't. I wish I had some advice to offer you there but I know that folks with multiple dogs here can help much more than I can in this situation.

I hope your work time away went well, you'll have to update us when you can.

Boy do I have my hands full here!

Brought Munson home on Thursday and all went well, and is still going well.

Friday night I was playing around with him and noticed a stitch!! He still has a stitch in his "stub!"mad

I didn't think it was worth a trip to the animal hospital, after hours, where they charge $350 to walk in the door so I waited until Saturday morning. I called my vet, and she moved my appt from Thurs to Tues, but she said to call the Humane Society and see what they say, and if they can take the stitch out... So I call and they told me to bring him down today (Sunday) and they will take the stitch out.

This morning comes and I drive an hour and half to the humane society (with a donation I must add..) They did not know anything about Munson coming down, and could not get hold of their manager. Then the lady proceeded to tell me "Oh, I can take the stitch out, but if he bites me then I have to put him in isolation and keep him." I said HECK NO! YOU ARE NOT TAKING A CHANCE ON KEEPING MY BABY! So they gave me a cone (too small for him!! I'm afraid it chokes him because when he has it on he coughs, like when he is pulling too hard on his leash.. I don't have it on him) SO BEYOND IRRITATED. Now I have to be with my baby every minute until Tuesday at his vet (I really don't mind though kiss) I don't want to take the stitch out myself though!! The poor baby not only has this stitch still in his wound but has to have it there until Tuesday, and had to go back the shelter (although I was with him the entire time, I'm sure it had his nerves shaken). Sorry for venting!! I'm just upset!! sad

You ave every right to be upset! Grrrrrrrrrr....we're upset right along with you! And we are a great place to vent too! We all have.....are.....or will!

I cannot imagine what Munsn thought when he went back to that shelter! I am soooooo glad yo were with him every step of the way, and even more glad you didn't let them take that stitch out! The audacity to say they would have to isolate him if he bit! Grrrrrrrr.......... Glad you didn't kee that dreaded cne n him either....it sounds like it could have caused some damage.

Not that you want to waste your energy, but call the shelter and see if you can determne where the commnication "gap" happened s it won't happen to some otjer poor soul!

Unfortunately, leaving a stitch, and even staples in, happens way to often. Glad you were diligent and caughtit" Good job mom!

Really glad he seems so hapy and has found his forever home! All your pack is lucky to be with you!

Now, go give that sweet Munson some hugs from s and a few extra treats toight too!

Applause to you both!a,

Sally snd Hapy Hannah

Aww I'm sorry. A stitch is relatively harmless, it'll be fine. Unfortunately when it comes to adoptions done after an amputation that was paid for by a non-profit, things like this often happen. Hang in there, Munson probably isn't even thinking twice about it!

I am so glad you adopted him! He is a gorgeous boy

I had a dog named Schmoozer, who is no longer with us now, who was severely epileptic so I know what you are dealing with there. Great job on being seizure free. If Fenway does have a seizure, you might have a plan for what to do with Munson. Dogs react all kinds of ways to another dog having a seizure including, unfortunately, sometimes aggression. Munson sounds like a sweetie so he will probably be fine, but it's good to have a plan in place.

My tripawd's name is Cora. She came from a shelter/rescue group situation. When I got her she still had staples in which was expected but I couldn't get any response about getting them out so she had the staples in for 15 days. I was so mad, but she was ok. She also had a stump. For Cora this was a rotten deal and she ended up needing a second amputation to remove the stump due to an injury. Cora's stump was on the front and she is blind and also has some coordination issues due to brain damage, so Munson has a huge advantage over her. Also watch for pressure sores on the stump. That can be another problem.

Most importantly though, enjoy your new furry family member. Dogs do so well in spite of challenges and they give so much!. It sounds like you are going to give him a fabulous home.
