My dog is doing really well now on 3 legs. Amp. Was July 6/15. Front leg. She's now just over 100 lbs. But I've noticed recently a sore forming on the outside of her remaining front leg just above the elbow joint. She does lay around a fair bit between play but shifts to both sides and I never see her actually putting pressure on this spot. Is it normal? Am I doing something wrong? She is fairly active so I don't feel like its from laying down too much. How can I help her? I've put coconut oil on it today since I've found it helps lots of different things. She hasn't been licking. Ideas? -thx

Glad sweet Harley is doing so well a d enjoying her sweet self!

Can you post a picture?

It does sound like one of those "callous things" that form or a ppssible pressure form. It doesn't take much for those to form on the remaining leg. I'm no vet, of course.

Kiss Harley for us!

This is most likely a callous on the elbow due to increased pressure.  Try to keep the area padded as these can progress to hygromas which are fluid filled and can become painful.  There is a company called Dog Leggs that makes padded elbow protectors for tripawds or you can try to make sure that your dog has an extra cushy dog bed and avoids laying on hard bare floors.
