HAAAAANK!!!! MR. LOCKSMITH OF LOVE!!! You are quite the romantic Mr. LOL!clown

I read your letter to Merry Myrtle and showed her your pictures.......she hasn't learned to read or type yet!

Shhhh......sweet little gullible.Merry Myrtle........I told her the chastity belt was just a.pretty little skirt that all cool girl puppies.were.wearing these days. She didn't quite understand why you needed a key to her skirt, but she asked me to send.it to you anyway because you are so cute!!! That's what she kept saying, "Hanky is cute!!! Can we send him keys.to the car.and keys to the house too?" She wants me to go ojt and get her more "chastity belt skirts" in different pictures.so she can send you pictures.

Oh my...this is turning into quite a cute story of puppy love!!!

PENNY! OMD! Hank's letter was brilliant!!laughing
PRICELESS!!

Love!!

The debate goes on. Here's A great, well-balanced article from the Whole Dog Journal that I just came across.

Risks and Benefits to Spaying and Neutering Your Dog

The growing debate over when – or even if – it is always best to spay or neuter.

When we talk about dogs, invariably we talk about dog people. The human desire to group things that interest us and build commonality among kindred spirits is hardwired– as is our tendency to segregate and highlight differences. As a result, dog people may identify as belonging to as many different canine communities as there are breeds. And within those “tribes,” we have mores, and values, and politics – and not all of them are compatible. . . READ MORE HERE

Thanks so much for posting this article, Jerry/Rene, I found it to be extremely informative and helpful. The vet in this article is located in the area that I grew up, near Baltimore. I think this discussion will be an ongoing and constant thought process for many of us that battled cancer in our pups repeatedly and sometimes wonder if spay/neuter actually does have something to do with it.....

Here is a pic I recently took of my poor sweet Pearl, lol !! She is just finishing up her first heat and is NOT real happy with her cone-of-shame, or her puppy diaper....although I am very sure she hates the cone the most...!! We have agreed to this recommended heat by one of our vets, to hopefully correct her problem with her "little girl" parts, and hope this proves to be successful. She has also already been scheduled at this point for her spay in December. In the long run, I still lean toward the fact she will most likely develop cancer in the future, but hopefully, WAY in the future......not a pessimist, just a realist at this point.......

Love,

Bonnie & Angel Polly

I just wanted to pop in and say that Ti was Neutered at age 4.5 in August.  He started limping in September, and was diagnosed with OSA in October.

I don't think that his neutering had anything to do with him getting cancer (he most likely already had it when he was neutered) but I am bummed that he got cancer (and not prostate cancer either) while being intact.

FASCINATING!!!! SOOOOO INFORMATIVE!!!

And the cutting edge alternative optons....uterus removal.....vasectomy.......and the "whys"!

Oh, and to find out that NEUTERED males can be the aggressor towards the intact males!! News to me!!

Thank you yet again for bringing ussuch VALUABLE information for our continuing education!

I knew I would let Merry Myrtle go through at least one heaet, now I'm going to do more research on just doing the uterus approach. I did let Happy Hannah go through one full heat too.

Gratefully!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

PS...I didn't renew myWhole Dog Journal last year (trying to save every penny I can)....I am DEFINITELY going to renew it again.

Ohh Pearl! You sure are a cutie even with the cone of shame . You got a good momma there, she's sure fighting for your health in so many ways. Pawesome!

I never would have given this issue a second thought but like you said Bonnie, coping with cancer sure opens your eyes to a lot of things you never considered.

Oh, and to find out that NEUTERED males can be the aggressor towards the intact males!! News to me!!

And as for that one Sally, I got two words for you. Wyatt Ray .

WYATT RAY! You leave those "intact boys" alone!!!

I guess it's just Wyatt's way of barking, "Give me my puppy balls back!" clap That's okay Wyatt Ray , human males have the same issues...I think it's called "pen*s envy"! winker

PEARL, you are sooooo adorable ! You make cones look fashionable!! Bonnie, thank you for sharing the pocture..we need to see more of sweet Pearl!clap And I can certainly, certainly understand your thoughts about this stupid piece of crap disease popping up. However, at some point the odds are on your side...and I feel strongly that Pearl is going to break the pattern!!! Cheering you on you little bundle of joy!clap

Ti, just know we all love you and are surrounding you with all the ositive energy this community can collect....and that's a lot!!!

Love to all

Pearl is a nice looking dog! Love how the bitch britches match her collar!

There hasn't been enough research yet on the speuter or not thing, especially early s/n, but more recent research is pointing to it being not in their best interest healthwise. The parts are SUPPOSED to be there. Why would we think removing them wouldn't be bad for them?

I've never had a male & most of my girls were spayed before their first heat. If I get any pups in the future, I'm sure I will let them go through one or two heats (we did this with the kittens). A pyo is NOT a good thing, so I will spay but do think they are on to something with letting them at least mature first.

For boys, I have seen really bossy neutered males & really calm & submissive intacts. Where I used to work, one of our daycare dogs was a neutered great dane & another was an intact great dane. The intact one could play with ANYone. The neutered one could only go with larger dogs that could handle rough & tumble play. Some places won't allow intact dogs. I never understood this (we did make sure no intact males went out with any intact females)

Also, my neighbor had an intact rottie that died at 14 from OSA, so hormones are just one factor in a dog's risk.

Working in rescue & seeing just how many unwanted animals there are (you cannot even fathom the scope of the issue unless you immerse yourself in it) I'm still not against early s/n for shelter animals. Back in the "olden days", too many people just didn't honor the s/n contract.

Pearl you look so cute sitting there in your purple diapers but your mama really is looking out for you. That was a great article and today I just got back from my vets and asked her opinion on delaying neutering and she is all for it as long as I keep on eye on Hank. So I will wait as long as possible.

Jerry,

Thanks for posting this article.  I've read some of Dr. Zink's work previously and am not surprised by the discoveries that others are coming to realize.  I know there will be people on both sides of this debate and that's ok but for me and my husband we will be leaving Lucian intact.  We're hoping that with not neutering early that Lucian will have a better health outcome down the road than our poor Leland (and Lucky) had.

And Pearl,

You are just adorable in your picture and I LOVE the purple panties your mom has on you...winker

I hope so too Sahana! I admire your doing so, it's not easy and I'm sure you'll get an occasional earful from opinionated types.
