It's March, the hares are out and Meg is up to all her old tricks. Don't worry, she's never caught one – they can run at over 40 mph – but for a raggedy three-legged mutt, you have to admit, she's not doing badly...

PS She'd be a good deal more aerodynamic without those bloomers slowing her down, just saying...

oooooh! Run rabbit! Run!! That looks reaaaally close! Wow!

(and nope, I think I disagree: I'm sure I see bloomers on that hare, so if he got away and I assume he did??? then there goes the theory about the bloomers...unless that's just one big-butted bunny...)

WOW !Go Meg IMPRESSIVE, MEGASTAR she is!clapWho needs 4 legs anyway! GREAT PICS!

Although I have to say Im glad the hare got away, but wow that was really really close. 👀 Has she caught one before? I cheer for the hares ,rabbits , bunnies here, they are so low on the food chain. We do not see very many .Everyone eats them up.

I agree with Tina LOL I think the bloomers catch the wind and propel Meg💨

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Thanks everyone! Yes, I fear you are right. The bloomers do serve as a sort of sail to propel the MegaStar along.

She never has caught a hare, Holly, no. They are crazily fast with their powerful legs and bloomer-powered booties to drive them. Rabbits are a different matter, and she has caught a fair number in her time, several even on three legs (Meg, I mean, not the rabbits). I can't say I like it, but where we are is extremely rural, with masses of wildlife (rabbits, hares, deer etc.) and very few people/dogs so I feel any impact on the wildlife population would be negligible. Moreover, I think what impact she does have is probably a positive in population terms, as the rabbits she catches tend to be old and/or sick and a large proportion show signs of myxomatosis. While meeting one's end in a Megastar's jaws would certainly not be pleasant, it is at least very quick and final, compared to a hideous prolonged and painful decline.

Sally, you are so sweet! Thanks (once again) for indulging us. You know perfectly well there is nothing I would rather do than post a(nother) pic of the Pie. She watched the whole thing from the edge of the woods, and I have to admit, I do detect a degree of concern re the fate of her Easter candy.

You go Meg!  And Elsie- you have the right idea- no sense careening around on those knees.  A furry, gamey rabbit is not worth the effort.

When I was a kid my brother's girl dog Snoopy (yes, girl dog named Snoopy...) was wicked fast and could almost catch jack rabbits.  I don't know what she would have done if she ever caught one, but it was amazing to see her run.

On the other hand, Maggie used to chase bunnies when I lived sort of in the country.  There was never even a chance that she would get close to the little hoppers.  It was when she was between one and two years old and before Tani joined us.  We would walk out back on the 3 acres we lived on and there were usually several bunnies out and about.  Mag usually couldn't see them so I would say 'there is a bunny!' and she would take off running.  When Mag got close enough the bunny would bolt and Mag would finally see it and give chase...for a bit, never getting closer than a few yards.  She would find a pile of bunny or squirrel 'snacks' to celebrate the hunt.

Elsie! I love your attitude! Stay on the couch with me, would ya, and let Meg and Manni do the hunting. (They would probably make the perfect pack...)

Manni goes coursing, too, well he did anyway but only for the adrenaline rush of the hunt, not to kill. He caught a rabbit once by umm, accident. He looked at me, spit out the rabbit and acted COMPLETELY disgusted... total hound, that 🙂  🙂

I agree with you Clare, though, that myxomatosis is a terrible disease and they are better off being killed by a dog.

Unfortunately, Gator can catch rabbits, something Tess and Otis, hunting together, never did.   Fortunately, I think they now have all relocated from my backyard, most of their own choice.   And I think he would be happier with the rewards of a successful critter hunt than the basket of goodies.

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.

You may be the cutest bunny babbit, we've ever seen Ruby Roo. But don't think for one second that will save your cute as a button bunny ass. NOBODY DISSES THE MEGASTAR.

Da Megsta is on her way.
