Including the bottle of Ibuprofen that was on the floor in my son's room...... It's been a long week.  I would be grateful to hear about anyone's experiences with this terrible surprise.  My Joe is doing "okay" after three full days of intravenous drugs including liquid charcoal.  His creatinine levels went back up yesterday after being off the IV for one day so the vet is concerned that there may be kidney damage.  Poor guy lost 5 pounds of puppy weight in the past 4 days....this is nowhere near the cancer diagnosis/amputation diagnosis most of us have had to deal with, but I am a little bummed about the whole damn thing..

I don't have any experience with this, but I just wanted to say I'm hoping for the best for your sweet boy.

Oh my gosh Wanda!!! What in the world did that crazy Puppy Wild Child JOE find tasty about a bottle of Ibupfen?? That silly, silly boy!!!

I had "sort" of a similar five day ER stay for Mr Frankie and, hopefully, it will be encouraging for you.

Frankie ate 1600 mg of Rimadyl. Got voth he and Mhrtle to the Vet as I wasn't 100% sure who ate them and how much. Regulard gets Myrtle to throw up....no evidence of the Rimadyl. Frankie refused to throw up...no siree...he wasn't giving up the goodies! Of course it was the start of a week end, so had to take him over to a 24/7 clinic for continuous IV.

If I recall, Frankie was on IV for four full days before they tried taking him off...maybe even a bit longer, can't remember. So just saying maybe they took them off a vit too soon....maybe...And maybe being back on a bit lo ger will help??

Jist so sorry you are going through this! Poor puppy. How does he seem to feel? I went to visit Frankie everyday. His attitude seemed good...he turned his nose up to food though. I think it was the fourth day he ate chicken for me...pretty much gulped it down...only to throw it up!

Joe is our family and he was sent to you, to us, by sweet Trd. I have to believe Ted is watching over him and will see him through this! Joe is a tough kid!

Update us as soon as you can, okay? Even IF there is some damage, there will be things that can be do compensate for any kidney weakness.

Im glad you posted so we can help send out healing pawsitive energy from allmof us straight to Pupp Joe!

Lots and lots of love to you Wanda!

Hugs a d love!

Oh Wanda, I am so so sorry to hear this about Joe. I came into the chat after you had left.  🙁  I am sorry I wasn't there last night when you came in.  I hope everything is ok for your Joe.  He is young and hopefully this doesn't hurt his kidneys.  Puppies do get into a lot of things.

Snickers bit into a battery when she was about a year old.  Luckily it didn't explode any a little battery acid in the mouth and I called poison control and also got her to the vet the next day.  (Milk can help neutralize battery acid according to Dr Google.)  But still needed something from vet to help the tummy.

Did you know if you have a home again microchip and have it registered that the ASPCA poison control waives the fee?  Its a great thing to know and they can help sometimes without having to go to the vet or help start puking before you get there.

Oh Wanda!  So sorry!  Yes puppies do get into everything despite all our best efforts!  Praying for sweet Joe to have no lasting effects from this.  As soon as I read this my mind went to Sally's Frankie and his rimadyl journey.  I see Sally has already told you about it.  Keep the faith sister we're all keeping it here for you both too!  Keep us posted and hoping you get your boy back home soon!

Oh no! Poor Joe and poor, poor you. I'm so sorry. Please update when you can.

I don't have direct experience of snaffling Meds (there but for the grace of God...) but I certainly do know that puppies are remarkably resilient. My Else was desperately ill with liver problems as a young pup. At one point her liver was so inflamed it had literally split open. It was AWFUL. She wasn't expected to survive and I kept thinking even if she did survive, what kind of damage would she have sustained and what sort of life would she lead. Ten years later... totally fine. Never an issue ever again.

Thinking of you and sending love,

Ohhhh my gosh that crazy puppy! I'm glad he survived the ordeal, how scary! How is he doing today?

Yeah, our Wyatt Ray is legendary for ingesting all sorts of weird things but nothing as serious as a bottle of NSAIDs. I'm so glad Joe is in good care right now. Let us know how he's doing, you are in our thoughts.

Thank you all for your responses and good wishes.  Joe started being "Joe" again on Sunday.  He's doing okay - we have round two of "potty training" going on now but that is due - I think- to the fact that he was so pumped full of solution for four days that he basically peed in his sleep and got away with it..... Not cool now!  The bedroom is not a bathroom JOE!!!  We go back next week to get a feel for the future kidney damage.  ugh.  Puppies ARE hard!  but worth it............................................. 🙂
