To HAWAII! That's right peeps, Hurricane Rosie and the Astronaut are going to be Hawaiian dogs! They have already started the bloodwork for quarantine and will qualify for direct release at the airport as of Jan 6th. We are both excited and overwhelmed! Mostly I am trying not to have kittens over the thought of flying these two creampuffs. I've been trying to find a group that might rideshare a private jet, but that is turning out to be a bit above our budget (30k for a one way flight from long beach to oahu). So, I did find a company that specializes in pet travel to and from hawaii, but now I have the challenge of building Astro a great dane sized crate that meets airline standards. Also trying to figure out the best way to 'stabilize' a tripawd in a crate. Anyone have flying tips or experiences? Mahalo!

Wow that is SO exciting! Oh my dog what a nice life you guys will have there, super big congrats!  So everything is going well I take it? And Astro is kickin' butt? HOORRAAAAY!!! superstar

I've no idea how to fly a bigger dog. I wonder if you can buy him his own seat? I thought I saw something on the news about an airline that flies pets and people together? Maybe I dreamed it. Wouldn't that be nice?

Yep, Astro-nomical is going strong. Just had his chest xrays (clear) and checkup to help decide if moving was even a possibility. He's looking good and still hoarding his toys like a champ. We've been going back and forth about whether to move two senior tripawds, but they both are healthy as can be so we decided to jump. Now we just have to get through the next 3 month of chaos!  I did look into the pet airline thing, but the only one I could find has no flight and seems to have gone bankrupt. I even called the airlines and asked about just buying out a row in first class. No dice. At least with direct release it will only be one horrendously long travel day for everyone and then we get to take them home that night.

Heiiiiiiiiii there Astro and family 🚀💥☄️

It is SO good to hear from you and boy oh boy you're as handsome and cool as ever 😎

I missed you guys 💕

As you know, Miss Cow went on her lonely trip and is now flying in space with her XXL wings but I bet she is still madly in love with Astro 🐮💘

As for his trip and Rosie's.

How about them wearing some clothes and a big hat and shades ????

👘👠🕶👒👛 madam Rosie Jones

👖👔👞👓🎩 💼 Mr Astro Livingston

or

you can "go crazy" between now and Jan 6th and say they are your therapy dogs and you can't fly without them ???

alternatively maybe you should all start surfing 🌊🌊🌊🏄🏼🏄🏼‍♀️🐕🐕

I bet nobody would be cooler than Astro riding a good old wave 🌊🌊🌊🐕🌪🌪🌪 from Long Beach to Hawaï

I suppose if all fails you just have to get advice from vet as to maybe giving them something to calm them down during the flight and get a nice mattress inside the cages?

A good thing is they will be close to each other so that will reduce stress.

How long is the flight? It's direct, right?

Please please update us and post pictures and videos of your cuties in their new home 😎🌊🍹⛱

Sending you an avalanche of kisses and cuddles, really great to hear from you, girl 😘😘😘😘🐮💫✨🌟🌹

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)

HEEYY!  I figure miss angel-cow was the queen of traveling, so surely she will be watching over the Astronaut and the Hurricane while they wing 2500 miles across the pacific!  Vet advised no sedatives, especially since Rosie is a squish faced breed, but hopefully them traveling side by side together helps. I have to drive them 3 hours to LA, then the first flight is ~9 hours to Oahu to clear them with the dept of Agriculture (which takes about an hour), then an hour and a half flight to hop over to the big island, where I can pick them up and take them to our rental house. Gonna need a lot of Aloha to get through that day!  The good news is that I just got the build instructions for Astro's custom crate and it looks like it will be bigger than my first apt, so we can always live in that in a pinch! big-grin

Now to get rid of 98% of everything we own! Eeeek.

Rosie just wants to set the record straight that is does in fact snow in Hawaii, almost every year at the summits of the 3 tallest volcanoes. So, we still may get to work on our sno-ga yet!!  She keeps insisting we should just open a Doggie B &B, for all our canine friends (because who wants to vacation WITHOUT their dogs?) Weirdos. That's who.  Although the rabies requirements are kind of a PITA.

Love to the Oakland Pack!

Cheers,

Kat, Rosie and The Astronaut

Hey !

This looks like a small version of Noah's ark 🛶

Yeah for the doggie B&B, can you think of anything more fun than that ???

Astro doesn't look too excited with his ark ...

In all fairness he should sit at the commands of that plane 🚀and not back in the cargo area ...

What did you do to his brevet ???

😘😘🐮💫✨🌟🌹

I'm back on the island next week trying to nail down temporary lodging for us. The BIG move day will be Jan 7th and 8th.  Jan 7th we drive the kids and the crates to LA, spend the night in a motel, and get everyone checked in for their flights early on the 8th.  Still trying to get the Astronaut accustomed to his temporary spaceship/crate. Rosie is in love with her crate, Astro is less impressed and wants to know why he can't fly first class. He's hoping Santa brings us a private jet for christmas so we can all go together. laughing

Cheers,

Kat, Rosie-Posie and The Astronaut

So glad to see Astro is still going strong!   What a big move for you guys!  Good luck and I can't wait to see pics from Hawaii.

Otis - 121 lbs pre amp - 114 lbs post amp and now 118 lb Great Dane - English Mastiff X.  Started limping on 12/24/16.  Diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 12/28/16 - amputation of front left leg on 1/6/17.  Stitches out and 1st round of Chemo on 1/19/17.   2nd round of Carboplatin on 2/10/17 - 3rd round on 3/2/2017.  4th round was scheduled for 3/22/17 - however due to low WBC postponed - 4th Chemo completed on 3/28/17.  Had breathing difficulties, stayed in Tufts ICU overnight.  Due for 2 more rounds of Chemo but we are opting to go with homeopathy with Dr. Loops instead.
