We hope you and your pack are having a fun day filled with family, friends and fabulous food!

Now if only we could do something about those loud fireworks. Can't we make fireworks do pretty explosions without the "KABOOM!"? Ugh!

Hoppy 4th of July.   My celebration will be a quiet one.  Pretty lucky the dogs don't seem to mind the noise I keep the fan running of course our A/c is on & the unit is outside my bedroom so that helps drown out the noise.  I will be keeping an eye on the help line if anyone needs it.

Hoppy 4th Wyatt! You're looking mighty handsome and proud and strong! Maybe you could channel some of that and send it our way!

My plans changed so I can stay in with the little pooch tonight ... her fear level has been an epic levels since the booms started earlier this week. Last night was tough - in her thunder shirt UNDER my bed.  I got her out and she buried herself in a fort on my bed. I think she is really trying to cover her ears.

And today... gave her a new toy to distract her and a boom went off and she grabbed the duck and under the bed she went. I'm letting it go ... I figure if she wants to stay under there, that's her deal. I feel bad for her but I can't soothe her. She will be in her thundershirt later and sedated.

And of course, we have our fearless angel watching over us.... oh how I do miss the days of Shelby and dressing her up and not being afraid of everything. I love little Jasper Lily but we can't even go for a walk around the block right now. Sigh.

Thank GOODNESS for chocolate and vodka! 🙂

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Happy 4th!!!!! Poor Jasper, I hope the thundershirt is helping a little bit. We too are staying home, hunkering down and are about to wrap Rosco in his.

Hope you all have a great holiday and a calm night!!!

Wyatt Rae, you are a handsome boy!  Sally, I saw Roscoe in his shirt on Facebook. So cute. Alison, we need to get poor JL some teeny weeny ( well maybe not so teeny) earmuffs. Can you imagine what fireworks sound like in her megaphone ears. Poor baby. Lori, TY & Gang

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed  and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

We were quiet here, too, last night. TV on, air conditioner going, all the doors closed to rooms in the front of the house. Since we are backed up to an orchard, the sounds and flashes were all out front. Ollie was quite concerned when he heard the first booms, but almost more curious than fearful. I finally opened the door to one of the front bedrooms and he looked out the window. Nothing happening there, so he came back and laid down.

We were wondering, since we know nothing of his background, whether he thought they were gunshots. With his apparent lack of training, though. I would doubt that anyone had used him for hunting of any sort. He settled right down in his kennel when we went to bed.

I am so sorry that little JL is so terrified of loud noises. The visual of the earmuffs is so cute, though.

Kathi and the Turbotail April Angel...and the Labradork

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Here you go, Sally - little Roscoe!

Well we survived the fireworks ... it was stressful - probably more so for me. The thunder shirt really worked for Jasper. First she ran into the bathroom to the infamous purple bath mat (I can never get rid of that). She was pressed up against my tub and looked limp and zoned out and she wasn't medicated. I was seriously worried so I put her on my bed and she buried her head into her fort and just kind of hunkered down. It was as if she was just accepting the noise (that went on for over 2 hours mind you - between the booms, actual fireworks, a$$ clowns being loud)... When the actual show started, I put on Enya on my iPad and turned it way up. She just layed in her fort and seemed sad but calm. Those who remember Shelby's first nights home after her amp w/her pacing when I shut her out of my room w/Enya and I found her sleeping in the bathroom - I guess it's calming.

So here's Jasper after the fireworks... she slept there most of the night. In her thunder shirt and I am soooooo happy to report she seems 100% normal today. Last year, I couldn't even get her to go outside in the a.m. But she's doing great - destroying toys, playing with her antler ...and despite how stoned she looks, we didn't resort to drugs! YAY!

@ Lori - I did cover those dumbo ears for her too... so all she probably heard was muffled Enya! I could see some of the fireworks over the marina from my bedroom. All in all - glad I was able to stay home with her. Much love all!
