So I wasn't sure where to post this because ... where do you post about pajamas?! Anyway, I know so many of us struggled to find ways to cover our pups' incisions, whether for aesthetic reasons or to help prevent licking. I went the t-shirt route because Izzy is a front amp but when she had knee surgery just over a week ago, I thought I would be able to rely on the cone of shame to keep her away from the surgery site.

Boy, was I wrong!

Here is my struggle - Izzy is an American Bulldog so not a small girl! She's barrel chested and tiny waisted with longgggg legs. I tried to find the Carter's Sleep n Play in a toddler size (those are a GREAT idea for smaller dogs because they snap up from ankle to chin and you simply put them on backwards to accommodate the tail) so off to Amazon I went. I ordered a super cute pair of Fitwarm jammies and selected the XXL based on the size chart. I knew her body was a bit longer than their max measurement but they were the biggest out of all the ones available. When they arrived? No dice.

Enter Drs. Foster & Smith (website for doggie meds ... who knew they had jammies?!). There was only one style available in what I thought would be big enough, so I ordered two. I did size up because of Izzy's deep chest and am glad I did. I think they are pretty true to the size chart but even the website says to order up if you are between the measurements or one (length or girth) is outside of the range. The jammies are super cute!! They are a poly-cotton mix, so shouldn't shrink and cover just enough on my long legged girl that her staples are covered. I thought this might help someone else, hence the long post!

I've taken pictures of the XXL from Amazon (Fitwarm) compared to Izzy's second pair of XL from Foster & Smith (Petrageous) as well as my big girl in her new jammies. For reference, Izzy is about 60 pounds (I might have let her get a lil chubby since her amputation ... not a good momma!) but normally weighed around 55 pounds as a full grown adult. Now, I will freely admit that the Fitwarm line has much cuter patterns, but I needed something that FIT. I hope this is helpful to parents of big babies!

Remember, the Fitwarm (printed) ones are an XXL!

Those are adorable.  Now I don't know that they would have fit Sassy but that is a great option for people 🙂

Thank you for sharing

Thanks for sharing your "research". Goodness gracious, there is a big difference in how "small" the XXL compared to the XL

How is that sweet Izzy doing? And how are YOU doing?

Lots of love!

Awwwwww bless her! That's amazing, the colour seriously suits her! I mean, I know it's about protecting the incision and all that, but Izzy (and you...) have turned medical need into a style statement! Gorgeous!

Oh my gosh this is a perfect place to post about the jammies! What a fantastic idea, I didn't know they existed either.

I did find some PetRageous jammies on Amazon, they have some cute designs!

Hope you don't mind but I'd love to show off Izzy's latest fashion pics & your thoughts about this in the Tripawds Amazon blog, so we can point people to this great post-op idea! Thanks again.

Izzy looks adorable!  And how amazing that someone actually makes dog jammies!

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.

Of course, her poppa thinks I'm nuts, but I think she looks adorbs. 🙂  Yes, share away! I posted in case it would be helpful to other folks! I do believe the jammies were less expensive on F&S but if you are only buying one pair, shipping would not be included so Amazon may work better for some folks. There are some patterns on F&S, too, but only the plain ones were carried in XL.

Pawesome, thanks for the detailed info.

I'm surprised F&S was less expensive, usually Amazon beats everyone. But yeah, Amazon can work better sometimes even if you don't have Prime (we don't so I know how that goes). Plus, every purchase made via links in the Tripawds Amazon blog helps support the community so yay for that! 🙂

Izzy is TOTALLY adorbs!!!
