Remember the video of the mastiff "running" the agility course? We have decided that Ollie would be the ideal training partner for him. Ollie had his second agility class last night. He was more comfortable with the apparatus, but since the other dogs were no longer allowed to have treats thrown into the tunnel when they wouldn't go into it, Ollie figured that there was no need for him to go in and hoover. Every single time he came to a tunnel, he would try to go around it. We finally just had him "place" in front of the opening and then we would go to the end and tell him to go through. His reactions was, "Oh...OK". This video was taken at the end of class when he was pretty well tired out, but for the most part, he is just basically lazy!

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Quite a gentlemanly pace there Ollie!

Part of the reason the pugs didn't mind the tunnel I think is because they could trot through without it touching them.  I did have to teach Obie the way you are with Ollie, but once he got the hang of it he would just zip through.  Do they have a curved tunnel?  I was a little surprised when Obie went through that one without a problem since he couldn't see out the other end.

At least you shouldn't be to worn out at the end of a run big-grin

There was a curved one, but it ended up getting straightened out when all eight dogs in the clas were working at the same time. One lady in particular seemed not to understand that she needed to move away from the end of the row. She would be just standing there when the other dogs came through. Ollie didn't have any problem with it while it was curved, though.

Wednesday night's class. Ollie is beginning to "get it". We have set up a jump and a weave in the yard so we can practice here. This week he willingly did the tunnel, even without treats. He still keeps searching the floor for things that have been left behind by others, though.

This is the final installment in the agility thread. Ollie will definitely take it again when it is offered in the spring. He had a great time. With a lot more practice, he should be able to try it off leash.

His next class starts on Wednesday. He is taking another run at the retrieve class. Last time we tried it, he just wasn't ready. In addition, there will be a different teacher, which will probably make a difference for him, too. He already goes out and brings in the morning paper, brings Garry his slippers, and of course, he brings his dish when it's time to eat.

Good job Ollie!

You will have so much fun when he gets to do agility off leash- although be sure you get in shape and stretch before you start!  Obie has short little pug legs and didn't go really fast but I got pooped out before he did sometimes.

Our next class is Tricks.  We are waiting for nose work to be offered- I really want to do that with Elly.

Have fun with Retrieve!
