It has actually been six whole months since Murphy left for the Rainbow Bridge. There are days where we still miss him so terribly much and the tears come. There are also days where we do a lot better. Ollie has helped to fill the huge hole that Murphy (and Gus) left. I still find myself calling Ollie Murphy every once in a while when I talk about him.

I am thankful for Murphy, because if it were not for him, I would never have met this amazing community of people who offer so much support to so many of us who are in the same boat. We would also never have met some of the amazing vets and staff who worked so hard with Murphy and with us to give him the best possible chance to live a normal life after his amputation and THR.

Kathi and the Turbotail April Angel...and the Labradork

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Your tribute to Murphy brings tears to my eyes.  I can feel your pain and your loss.  Kathi, I  thank Murphy for his journey because he brought us you to give all us "newbies" the support you give daily.  To have suffered your own losses and continue to support others truly makes you all "angels".  Run free indeed Murphy run free and healthy at the bridge.

Beautifully said Kathi.

You put into words what so many of us have been through and how we feel about this place.

Very lovely and I think you echo the feelings of many here. This is a place where I feel safe (even 18 months later) to still grieve and cry and celebrate the good that is little Jasper Lily... I am forever grateful for the AMAZING people I have "met" here that have lifted me up when I didn't think I would ever stop crying ...

We are SO grateful for all that you have done for us too... and your wisdom and sharing Murphy's story ... his legacy will live on forever! And so will you ... I will never forget the "granny bump" video!!!

XO

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Kathi I'm so sorry your post disappeared. I've got Admin working in that issue, it's really bugging us. EVERYONE please copy your post into your clipboard before hitting "Reply" until this is fixed OK? Sorry for the hassle.
Meanwhile, I understand how those six months can seem like forever and yesterday all rolled into one. Time is somehow a burden to us silly humans, I think animals have it made, they really just don't live their lives around that concept.
We are so grateful for all you have, and continued, to bring to the Tripawds Nation. If it wasn't for Murphy, we wouldn't have had such a great example to show people of what is possible after the type of accident and surgeries he had, and know that there are vets out there wiling to compassionately go out on a limb to give Tripawds the best life possible. You and Murphy are changing lives with your story, thank you so much.
xoxo

I am in agreement with what everyone else said here..... Some days, I still have deep thoughts of my girl Polly, and she is so vivid in my mind and heart, I just cry. Her 20 month angelversary will be coming up on the 16th, and some days it still seems like yesterday...... We all really understand what you are going through and I have to say that the first year without our angels is definitely the worst, but it does get a bit easier to accept as each day goes by.

And the name thing, sometimes I go through all my girls's names just to get to the right name..... It doesn't matter the color either, I call Pearl and Zuzu, everything but their own name!! Kinda like, MAGGIE, POLLY, ZUZU, WHATEVER YOUR NAME IS !!!! Pretty funny most of the time! 🙂

Keeping you, your hubby, Turbotail Murphy, Gus, and the Labradork Ollie in my thoughts tonight......
Love,
Bonnie, Angel Polly, Pearl, and Zuzu

What a very sweet and poignant post Kathi. You are held so closely to the many hearts here including my own. Bless you.

Harmony became a Tripawd on 10/21/14 (MCT). She left us way too soon on 11/1/14.

Thank you, everyone. These kind posts just reinforce my feelings about the special kind of place this is.
