So I decided to sign Jasper up for dog obedience classes ... she is a good dog but can always do better (as I like to tell her, make good choices, Jasper Lily). Since we are pretty sure she is a Kelpie mix, we know she is a smart breed (and a working breed so obedience will give her goals).

I know all pawrents say this about their fur-babies but my dog was the smartest in the class! Not sure if it was because she was the oldest (3) or that she goes to daycare once a week where they do some training with them, or that she's just bright but she picked up all the cues right away. Her name - yup, she would look right at me. Come, in a heartbeat - even with store distractions. Look - (as in look me it the eyes)... pretty good.

The training started off with some playtime and Jasper seemed more interested in the people than the dogs but of course became the "fun police" when dogs started doing zoomies in circles and she had to "bark" to "herd" them. But all in all, she was really well behaved and well mannered. I was so proud of her!

Shelby passed dog obedience simply by showing up. She was a good dog but I didn't really work with her and she made bad choices well into her teens....but she did pass her canine good citizen easily and I am hopeful for Jasper. We still need to work on a lot of issues - like barking at strangers (new and not fun), trying to chase a car (once and hopefully never, ever, again) and making good choices in life (not barking at the neighbors every single day).

BUT who goes to Petco and doesn't get a toy!?!

When I left for work ... snuggled with her baby. She doesn't even bat an eye when I walk out the door and I guess that is a good sign that she is secure and knows I will come back.

And one more ... from the dog park last weekend -

Caption this! I call it pure bliss...

What a difference two years makes ... this little girl has come so far out of her shell...she is a totally different dog than the dog I rescued .. she is happy, confident and secure. So proud of her! heart

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

ADORABLE!!!!

I wish mine would play with toys and not "eat" them. I'd love to get a picture of them snuggled up with their favorite.

I don't know about that "obedience" stuff. I've got a feeling they would pay me to take my fur-babies home. LOL!

xoxo

Harmony became a Tripawd on 10/21/14 (MCT). She left us way too soon on 11/1/14.

I also took Eurydice to obedience classes and we absolutely loved it, it was as fun for her as it was for me !

Keep up the good work clap and send more pictures of your gorgeous girl !

Sending you a bug hug and cuddles to Jasperheart

Ahhh... thanks you all! She is a pretty special and smart girl!

And for those who are commenting about the lack of destruction of the alligator ... I am really surprised too that he's still pretty much intact. Normally those are gutted in a matter of minutes which makes me think she wants to savor this one. 🙂 We have a basketful of "flat" "de-fluffed" toys! Also, it is really warm out here in LA and since we don't have AC, her playtime is less aggressive and less ambitious ... or it could be the 3+ miles of booty buster walks I make her do daily in an effort to get our "summer body" in check!

Sally, I'll work on getting a video! winker

She really is priceless! We too have many "animal skins" here; I've started buying them already de-stuffed to save him the trouble. She HAS come so far, you both have. If you learn how to stop her from barking at strangers, you'll have to share the secret - that would be useful at our house.

Paula and Nitro

P.S. I think you should dress her up for class....let her inner diva come through! 🙂

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms.  Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

Love love love the pictures!  Especially the pure bliss one.  She is the epitome of a dog well loved and knows it in every fiber of her being.  You crack me up Alison with your "making good choices Jasper" pep talks.  That is so sweet.  And it doesn't surprise us that she did so well in class.  Very smart little Princess that one is.  Much love and many hugs to you two girls.

Of course she is the star! How could she help but be with Shelby's guidance? It's so fun to watch her progress. It's taken us a while, too, to have fully stuffed toys around Ollie. The barking at the door is something we are working on. He is better at stopping when he is told, but still wants yo be the first one to see who is there.

Kathi

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
