Good morning all!!! Jasper is still a little under the weather but definitely improving from yesterday. It broke my heart to leave her when I left for work (especially since she wouldn't poop). BUT if she messes in the house, she messes in the house...

I think she slept in my laundry basket last night ... despite ALL her beds being in the bedroom with us. She did settle down but I was very aware of her moving around so I didn't sleep great.

The blood (as far as I can tell ) has stopped and it was by no means like Claire described ... just pink spots when I wiped her booty.

I did, however, discover 5 min into my 50 minute commute that there was dog poop in the car!!! Grrrrr.... So for those that know about LA ... imagine just sitting ... in traffic ... smelling smog, exhaust and now dog crap. Thankfully we have tons of disinfectant wipes here at work so I cleaned out my car when I got to the office.

Sally - really good point about talking myself off the ledge yesterday on my own helpline night!!! I did what I could but it was terrifying how easily I fell back into that dooms day scenario narrative in my mind ... We'll get the stool sample results later today and for now, JL is at home, resting, licking her booty (because it's leaking) and hopefully starting to feel better! But glimmer of sparkle today so that was good! She still doesn't want to play fetch w/me. 🙁

Fingers crossed for a good day!!! XOXO

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Hi Alison....I've been MIA for awhile, just catching up. So sorry to hear of Jasper's issues, and all the stress you're feeling. Those lab results seem to take years to complete when you're waiting, don't they? Sending good thoughts and prayers your way as you wait.....

Paula and Nitro

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms.  Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

Oh good!' Glad to here you're seeing some improvements!!! Sweet that Jasper chose the laundry basket as her "healing" spot. Wouldn't you love to know her thought process about that choice! Maybe she thought if she dribbled some poop it wouldn't be on your bed or a ymofnher beds 🙂 🙂 Smart girl!

Love and hugs!

This all sounds very positive (I mean, apart from your poopy car, obviously..) I am SO pleased to hear Jasper's showing signs of improvement. I hope you'll be able to have a rest and relax together when you get home from work.

Big hug for you both.

Sending love,

Meg, Clare and Elsie Pie xxx

YES - Paula ... lab results are moving at a snails pace here ... I got my lab work back from my physical faster than this!!! Oy!

I am ready to get out of the office and home to my girl but I am sure she is resting in one of her favorite hiding spots.

Now this might be a bit TMI but in light of the 'car situation'... I also noticed last night when we had cuddles on the floor (again, Shelby flashbacks).. her beds now stink. I didn't see any visible mess in her beds but she has three beds total. One for the car that I brought inside for her (also was Shelby's last bed so it's bittersweet that Jasper takes comfort with it in the car). Then the bed I bought for her and then another one of Shelby's older beds that Jasper immediately took as her favorite when she first moved in.

Shelby's beds are OLD ... and have never been washed (is that bad? I shake them out and vacuum them) but never put in a washing machine. So do you think they can go in the washing machine OR will I need to toss and buy new. You can't remove the covers. they are the basic simple beds you find at Home Goods or Ross ...

I would probably try to wash them - perhaps got to a Laundromat so you don't mess up your machines?  Couldn't hurt, and if they don't make it, you just toss them and buy new.

So glad Jasper is doing better.    One of my coworkers had a suspiciously similar situation with his dog - the dog eventually passed squirrel fur and bones.   One less squirrel in the yard. . .

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.

laughinglaughinglaughing WOW... that is crazy!!! I hope that isn't our story...

So the update from the labs is ... we still don't know. No parasite (which means ... YAY can turn this in for pet insurance - it would not work w/a parasite). Basically keep her on her meds (antibiotic and anti-diarrhea) and as our vet said ... this is the best case scenario since it means it is probably nothing. But I still think she ate something she shouldn't have (cat poop or something). So keep an eye on her is the dealio.

I should feel satisfied w/this but I still have the part of me that needs to know what made her sick ... Perhaps she did ingest part of a toy or something on walk. Let's hope my apt isn't covered in poop when I get home! laughing

Wow I wonder if dogs can just get stomach flu?  You're right probably something she licked or ate outside or something.  At least you know since they did X-rays that there's nothing stuck in there (like a squirrel or a mouse) just her breakfast.  Hoping too you come home to no accidents and a happy feeling better JL.  Let us know.

And we have sparkle back!!! I was greeted at the door by a very excited JL. Normal! Normal walk. Slightly less normal poop but I'm sure whatever issue she has is still working it's way out ... slight booty licking which hopefully will stop... no messes. Ate ALL her dinner (frankly, she would have eaten yesterday but I was advised against giving her food). And the best .. BALL time!!! She grabbed her bally and brought it right to me to play! Never did I think I would be so happy to play the world's most annoying game (for me - not her). Happy Mom. Happy Dog. Thank you ALL!

We're still not 100% but we are 100% better than yesterday!!! XOXO
