It has been ridiculously HOT in Southern CA. Records broken and for those of us that live at the beach - no relief. In the past week it's been 90 (at NIGHT!!!!). During the day, I leave Jasper w/the curtains drawn and a full bowl of water and hope that she's smart enough to keep her body temp regulated. She's been fine - not even lethargic. Yesterday I got home and she wasn't at the door but came running from my bedroom to greet me so I suspect she was under the bed.

So last night we got into bed (yup, on my bed that one)... and it's too hot for covers so we're laying on top of the duvet. I guess we fell asleep and about 2:00 a.m. I bolt because she is sitting straight up - barking. I told her quiet (even though where my bedroom is, I am pretty sure no one else would hear her in the complex). Finally get her to shut-it. And she sits there, staring at the door, ears to the side, for about 30 - 45 with her low-growl. It cracks me up. It's like white noise but not really. Then I start to freak out out and think someone is in the apt and am debating getting up w/my bat OR just letting it go and hope they steal stuff and get out... (remember, it's 2 a.m. - who thinks clearly at 2 a.m. and in the extreme heat).

Fortunately no one was in my apt and we both fell back to sleep and now i wonder if it was a ghost or the spirit of Shelby haunting us ...

Oh Jasper Lily ... she's hilarious w/the low-growl. When I tell her not to bark (I am wondering if I get a water bottle and spray her if that will fix it), she either whines or does a low growl. When I had workers in the apt this weekend, she sat in her crate (she put herself in there) and just rumbled .. no one was talking to her, looking at her, anywhere near her but she was growling. I am pretty sure if push came to shove and the workers had gone near her, she would have crawled up into their laps for cuddles!

Just another day in the life of Jasper Lily and her dumbo ears!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Hey, who knows what they see. Maybe Shelby just had to stop by to see how things were going .Yep, Lucy does the "rumble" she barks too though. The spray bottle worked to get her to quit herding me. so it would probably work for just plain barking also. I sure hope you get some cooler weather soon. The heat can be miserable. I think it is so cute that she puts herself into her crate. I love it!!!! Hey, if the spray bottle does not work to stop the barking, at least you can use it to cool off. LOL Hugs, Lori Ty and pack

Too funny. I bet it is Shelby checking in. Jasper may be a little jealous.

Well I was warned that Shelby would 'haunt' me! :-)

Rumble.... that's exactly what she does!

Her other - weird - thing ... every time I start the dishwasher, she barks and goes bat shit and hides. I don't get it. It makes ONE little chirp and that's it. Ahhhh... the joys of a rescue pup. God knows what they went through before their forever home!

Hmmmmm.....hmmmmmm.........Jasper sure "saw" something...or felt something. I'm thinking the bat is a great idea!

See, I'm thinking it wasn't Shelby because I think that Kasper would know better than to bark at Shelby!

I love your description of the low growling rumble if you won't let her bark. I love that she's such a good watch dog. A barking dog is a great deterrent...even if they are cuddlerss..they still sound ferocious!

YAAAAAAY FOR SLEEPING INTHE BED!!! Way to go Jasper!

LOVE!!

Ha ha!!! Casper I know!!! Not the "Daryl" thing but Casper I do remember!!! :-)

Oh I agree - Shelby was never a good guard dog - door bell rang, she looked at me as if to say "you going to get that"?... Jasper definitely sounds MUCH more fierce than she actually is.

She's exhausted from daycare - mission accomplished!

Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Diagnosed 09/26/2012 with Osteosarcoma, amputated 12/4/2012.  Had a wonderful 5 1/2 months painfree until he ran for the Bridge on 5/15/2013.  Always in my heart, and always a guardian angel of my pack...   You can follow his Tripawd Adventures, before and after, in my blog, Frank'n'Farter!

Christine...the picture you posted is so true.  I think this fits Jasper's encounter perfectly.

Yeah Alison,

I think Jasper was sensing Shelby's presence and she's such a good little guard dog she wanted to let you know.  You've had other "experiences" since Shelby's passing so I suppose this time it was Jasper's turn.  You may want to tell Shelby that 2am is not a good time for this as she could give you a heart attack thinking a burglar is in your home...winker

OMG .. I got chills Christine! I was KIDDING (sort of) about the ghosts and Shelby haunting me but that does make perfect sense... Shelby was visiting and I LOVE that image... it warms my heart. And Shelby visited me in my dreams last night too.

And definitely, Sahana, if Shelby could visit at a more 'appropriate' hour ... that would be fantastic! LOL

Warm fuzzies all day ....

Alison with the Spirit of Shelby fur-ever in her heart - an apparently my apartment too (and little Jasper too)

CHRISTINE!! PRICELESS..AND SO ARE YOU!!!
I LOVE THIS!!! LOVE IT!!!

Yeah, I agree with Sahana's take now..especially with you having Shelby in your dreams!!! It really makes sense to me now. While Shelby is visiting you in your dream, Jasper is xefinitely sensingnher presence..her energy! Clearly Shelby was trying to visit you in your dream the other night...but her presence was so strong it woke up Jasper! And thenShelby had to wait until last night to get through to you in your sleep state!

Love your signature!
