It has been 3 months since we laid Chance to rest and I still miss him each day. His picture still graces the desktop of my computer and the background on my phone. His memories run through my mind as I am outside in the yard. When I throw the frisbee for Maddie, I see the two of them playing tug of war as they both share the duties of returning the frisbee. As I type this, I still get choked up thinking about how much I miss him. Now, I have the privilege of fostering a rescue dog, who's mannerisms and actions remind me of Chance even more.

About a month ago, a little black dog showed up at the front door of my business. She was sitting in the bushes weak and scared. I found some goldfish crackers in my office and I brought those back and laid some in front of her. She slowly got up to eat them and I was able to catch her. Fortunately I had a leash in my car and she was wearing a collar, without tags. She didn't put up a fight. I took her to the local vets on my lunch break and they didn't know her. They said to take her to the shelter. Since she was wearing a collar, we assumed someone would be looking for her. I hesitated, because it is a high kill shelter, but I just prayed that her owners would come and I would check back with them before her 10 days were up. Her owner was located through Facebook but never went to get her. We were never able to get any information or history of the dog from them. After 10 days, a local Rescue pulled her out of the shelter and had raised the money to get her vetted. I volunteered to foster her and a rescue in Minneapolis offered to take her into their program. She has been with me for the past 2 weeks and is an absolute joy. We named her Grace, because so many things had to fall into place for her to live. She would have been euthanized several days later had she not been pulled out of the shelter. She is a 6 month old black pit bull mix and is the sweetest, most energetic dog I have ever met. She is a work in progress as she was never taught ANY manners. She is smart and her only goal in life is to please her person. I know that Chance sent this girl to me so that she could have a chance at life. With the right family and proper training, she will be one heck of a family pet. I'm not keeping her because I am 6.5 months pregnant and this girl requires A LOT of attention. I sure hope that she can find a life of love and happiness. Here she is being cute and crazy!

Chance is a 10ish Shetland Sheepdog Mix who was rescued from the shelter in January of 2013 and diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in September of 2013. He had a front left amputation and 6 rounds of carboplatin. He had a great 11 months and was diagnosed with lung mets on 8/23/14. He was released to the bridge on 8/28/14.

What a wonderful girl!  I love how she throws her toy for herself, and the puppy play pose.

Congrats on trying to foster.  I think I would fail every time.  And congrats too on the baby!

Taylor,

She is a cutie.  You never know you maybe a foster failure if Chance sent her.  She is adorable.  I love the way she plays with the ball & chases it and plays by herself.

Keep us informed

hugs

ohhh! she is so fun and playful!!!!  I'm so glad she found her way to you, I have no doubt you will make sure she finds the right home, but in the meantime it looks like shes having a ball at your house!!!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

What a great video. Chance knew what he was doing. My lab Toby does that all the time. I call it hockey time. Your floors look a heck of a lot better than mine.
