Oh yes! I had an old container from way back (I don't even remember what for, isn't that awful), and I got low on newspaper for Huckles cage. One XL pee pad under the litter box did the trick. I made sure his water bowl was on the other side so that if (when) he spilled it again I would not burn anymore bread! Even nicer, with the plastic on the bottom you can roll the whole thing up and the litter doesn't go everywhere. Easy peasy!

It’s going to be pretty hard to keep that quiet around here David!!! I do hope the warden is on paid leave and that she still get regular visiting hours?!  it’s so hard finding good help these days isn’t it? laughing I heard that there are a few departments involved in the investigation...better tell the Warden to keep her head down!way-cool

Some day, I'm going to do a lessons-learned from Raven's 2-week recovery period, because those lessons are many.  I'll sneak a small tip in right now, because I just happen to be thinking about it after our evening clean-up routine.  Useful product:  Dog pee pee pads..

I can’t wait for the ‘Lessons Learned edition #1! I’d like mine signed by Royal Raven please!

It’s funny that your guys love the pee pads, my old guy Spike needs them in his sleeping areas (he’s got a leaky bladder syndrome!)aw-shucks He doesn’t like to sleep on them at all! I think he knows and is in complete denial, to tell you honestly, poor old fella!heart

Loving the updates! Thank you!

Our other cat, Abby is going through an adjustment.

Lots of vocalizing and attention-seeking. You might guess from the earlier picture that she’s missing her good buddy, Raven. I’m not so sure. The truth about that picture is that the situation really isn’t voluntary for Abby. Raven is very needy, and has basically turned Abby into a love slave. Abby often hides from Raven just to get a break now and then. I thought she might actually enjoy her 2-week Raven vacation. Maybe she just needs a little more attention.

I told Abby I bought her a very expensive, very special gift for being a good sport during this ordeal. It was well-received!

I am not convinced that Abby and Andy are not related, omw he could be her big brother! Andy has been stalking the hospital ward this morning, I found him glued to the door when I woke up.  Today might be a good day for a visit. Your Abby is BEAUTIFUL!

I’m a big fan of freedom. So is Raven.

I’d say the most bothersome part of recovery for me is having to enforce confinement and restraint on that poor little animal. She is fed up, and wants run of the house and that cone off her head. Poor thing is going to get neither until a 3-week recovery is completed and sutures are removed. Her recovery is longer than standard, because her incision is quite extensive.

I pay the price for it, but I do admire her indomitable spirit. I had to replace her second cone today.

She had almost chewed/licked her way to freedom. Had been working on it for a long time. I felt like a guard taking a spoon away prisoner who had tunneled halfway to the prison wall. Can you imagine how demoralizing that would be? After all that work!

Yup, we’re still using that VetOne collar. I’ve tried five different brands. It turns out VetOne (the one we started with) is the best tradeoff of them all in terms of comfort, mobility, eating access, etc. The pluses make up for the lack of durability and slightly inappropriate size. Raven says she’s prepared to chew through Amazon’s entire supply if she has to.

Abby went to the vet today. We just wanted to rule out medical issues as the cause of her increased vocalizing. Everything is A-ok. We’re chalking it up to stress. Cats don’t like any changes in the household, and Raven’s absence is a notable change in routine for her.

I might have to see a Dr myself. The other night, I did an excited review on dog pee pee pads on the internet. That’s definitely outside my normal range of interest and behavior too. Maybe there’s some medication for that.

Glad to hear Abby is just stressed (not glad to hear but rather then a medical issue) did you guys try the multi cat diffuser sorry for the broken record but I do think it helps soothe everyone!  Not the humans of course;)

Aromatherapy for you guys, lavender is safe to diffuse with cats!

Also what about a supervised visit with Raven? Would that help Abby if there is a hiss end the visit.

Raven I can't blame her & we admire her indomitable spirit too! She gave that cone a work out oh-mybless her heart!

OMC 3 weeksugh 2 weeks was hard to keep Purrkins in that room! Start the countdown and check each day off! Have your endless  supply of cones ready!

You will look back on all this and laugh at some of it I promise! You guys are doing great!

Love that picture of Abby in the box ! Boxes are the best presents for cats & ditto Sally red is her color!

Give them both chin & ear scratches from us!

Yes we did, Holly. And we do appreciate your helpful advice along with everyone else's on this thread. This site has been a great help for us. Thanks everyone!

It's hard to judge the efficacy of the diffuser. My wife bought one that plugs into a wall socket, and we also have some aromatherapy spray. It is our first time trying these products. Both cats are still rather edgy. Of course, we implented this while they were quite strung out, so it may be the case they would be worse off without it. We will keep it up and see how this goes.

Thanks!

I have both also and I do think that they help some. I have the diffuser pretty close to the crate and I give a little spray around the outside corners of the crate on the big towel that it sits on. When I clean the crate I have 2 little stuffed buddies that I give a little spray to before I set them back into the crate. I cannot say that it makes the "impact" that we as people want to see, but it seems to take the edge off when Andy and Oscar wander in to see the patient. I have a towel that has been in and out of the crate when I medicate Huck, and I lay it outside the crate also so that the boys can get a good scent of their new brother without being too invasive. You can laugh, but I have music playing on low pretty much all day and night. It varies from sleep, meditation, and outside noises (birds, bugs, etc.) and if he seems overwhelmed or just plain old uncomfortable and stressing, I pull a big, light blanket over the crate with enough room for him to peek out of without being exposed. Believe it or not that seems to have the biggest impact on him. I hope some of this helps even a little.

I agree it is not a magic bullet ! I do believe it is worth having it plugged in and stayed plugged in until things improve,

With us it took a good month before things were back to normal! No more hissing and swatting;) Back to cleaning one another etc.

Hang in there and keep doing what your doing, slowly reintroduce scents and allow supervised visits.

Things will get better it takes some time, patience and a referree at timeswinker

Raven darling, you are doing a great job and just keep in mind.... it’s only one more week before you are free!!! Stay patient and if you’re going to do a jail break, then you have to hide the evidence! No wonder you gave a dirty look!

Holly, if David needs Prozac, then I think we all are going to need it!!! After all who talks more about peeing and pooping poop 💩 and all manner of things to do with our animals excretions?!!!!big-grin

Cuddles,snuggles and all things cozy...
