Gretchen: An Early Survivor of Osteosarcoma

My Mom and Dad just told me that a really nice lady named Stephanie from Andover, Minnesota, sent us a letter about her Tripawd, Gretchen. Stephanie wanted to let us know about a beautiful website she made, that tells about Gretchen’s victorious comeback after a bone cancer diagnosis, way back in 1999.

gretchen frisbeeThis is the website that was created for our dog Gretchen, who passed away in 2001. She survived osteosarcoma for over two years, which at the time, was really impressive. Vets at the U of Minnesota grew to love her, and she was on the cutting edge of new chemotherapy drugs when she was still alive.

Gretchen went on to hunt again, catch squirrels, and play her favorite game of frisbee. Never in those two years did we regret her amputation and chemo, although there were some unforeseen challenges.

What a beautiful girl Gretchen was. Her story is an inspawration to all of us tripawds, and we salute her family, the Yants, for being early supporters of bone cancer treatments and showing the world that life can be great on three legs. Thank you!

Call for Entries: Tribute to Tripawds Book

jerrystorybooksample1b.jpgI wanted to let you know about a special project that my Mom and Dad are doing right now. They are creating a special coffee-table tribute book that’s all about Tripawds, both past and present. We want to show the world that it’s better to hop on three legs than limp on four.

We want you to be in the book too! Just send us photos and a short bio of your Tripawd pal. We would love to hear back from any of you who are interested in helping us shine a light on the amazing qualities of thee-legged dogs.

Just send us up to three high-resolution photos of your beloved Tripawd, and a brief story about your amazing family member. For those Tripawds no longer with us, we will dedicate a special section to these angel dogs. There is no cost for submitting.

jerrystorybooksample2b.jpg As a thank you for allowing us to feature your special canine in the book, we will donate a portion of sales to the Morris Animal Foundation’s Canine Cancer Campaign, and offer you a generous discount on the book.

Please email your photos to us. New Extended Deadline! 1/4/08 (exceptions can be made)

PS: Please note that all submissions become the property of Agreda Communications and copy may be edited for length and clarity.

New Puppy Up! store would make Malcolm proud.

Puppy Up! Web Store Now OnlineThe Big Dog at 2Dogs2000Miles.org has just launched a web store featuring the new Puppy Up!™ brand on apparel for dogs, and people too.

Puppy Up! Now isn’t that just brilliant? I’d like to consider that the new “Live Strong” battle cry for us canine cancer survivors. But what’s even better is that proceeds from the Puppy Up! store will go to the 2 Dogs 2000 Miles Foundation for Canine Cancer Prevention and Awareness.

And now you can tell everyone you know to Puppy Up! with a T-shirt for your dog, or one for yourself. You’ll also find sweatshirts, ornaments, mugs, bumper stickers, and much more!

If you missed my post about this walk for a cure, you can read all about this incredible journey and the memories of Malcolm on the Puppy Up! blog.

As you may know, I have my own Tripawds Web Store complete with three-legged dog merchandise and gifts. But while I was checking out all the cool stuff in the Puppy Up! store, I also came across The 3 Legged Dawg Store which includes lots of stuff with the 3LD logo.

And if you’re interested in setting up you’re own online store it’s really simple! Just click the link below to find out how…

Sad News About Lefty

Tripod Dog from Philadelphia SPCAI am really sad to tell you that Lefty went over the rainbow bridge this past week. Her foster mom told us that she had serious complications after her amputation surgery.

She started to drastically deteriorate during her second week with us. First her back right leg gave way and was soon useless; then after a few days her other leg was shot. Eventually, she couldn’t stand, sit up to eat, and began to pee/poop less frequently since she couldn’t prop herself up. It was very sad. We think no one really knows what went wrong.

Dog Moms and Dads, please don’t let this scare you, because in the one year since my Dad made this website, we have not heard of this happening before. We aren’t vets, but it seems that complication like this are very rare. But, my Mom and Dad thought that you should know about it to keep an eye out out for things like this after surgery.

Our hearts go out to Lefty and her foster parents in Philly.

We’ll miss you Moose!

Rest In Peace Moose

Today is a sad day. My people received the news that Moose the Original Wonderdog has left us.

Moose proved the doctors wrong and wowed his people by living more than two years as a tripawd after his amputation. And not only that, but he also battled with Wobblers Syndrome (Cervical Spondylomyelopathy) for the past few months. He was a trooper, an inspiration, and will always be in our hearts.

We will all miss Moose dearly and only regret that we never got to meet him in person, or in dog rather. It was Moose’s YouTube videos that first gave my people the strength to follow through with my amputation surgery after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma like he had. Rest in peace big fella.

2 Dogs 2000 Miles

I just received a comment on one of my YouTube tripawd videos from The Big Dog who is undertaking an incredible journey with his two beautiful boys Murphy and Hudson. I was so touched, I just have to share it with everyone.

In January 2008, these three will embark on a 2,000 mile, 6 month walk from Austin, Texas to Boston, Massachusetts to raise money for cancer research for companion pets. Read on to view the trailer and tell everyone you know about 2 Dogs 2000 miles.
