Shiva the Syflex Raffle WinnerEver since my people started giving me the Synflex glucosamine supplement, I’ve been feeling great! They have even cut back on my Metacam nonsteroidal anti-inflamatory medicine since I started using it.

They noticed such an improvement in my mobility and endurance with Synflex that we went to the Synflex factory to pick up a few extra bottles back when we were in Florida. And the kind folks there were nice enough to donate a couple bottles which we raffled off at the 2 Dogs 2000 Mile cookout to support the Big Dog’s walk from Austin to Boston with Hudson and Murphy.

Whether you have three or four legs, I recommend Synflex for arthritis pain. Or even two legs … they make it for people too! OK, I guess they did that first and discovered it works so well on pets that they added a beef flavor!

At the 2 Dogs 2000 Miles kickoff cookout we had in Austin, I finally got to meet Hudson and Murphy. And my people had a chance to throw a few questions at the Big Dog about their journey to find a cure for canine cancer…

Hudson and Murphy Sleep Over with JerryWell, I made it to Texas, just in time for a pawty in the pawk! My pals, Murphy, Hudson and Luke held a fun BBQ in Austin. This laid back event was just a warm up to the kick off of their 2000 mile walk to Boston next month. It was a perfect, sunny day, and a bunch of us tripawds had a rollicking good time!

Oh the humans also had a lot of fun too. There was great music courtesy of Barenaked Family and Friends, good treats thanks to Bark for Peace, and even raffle prizes of my personal favorite Synflex Glucosamine supplement donated by the kind people at the Synflex company in Florida.

See Spot Live LongerMy people just discovered this great website about the benefits of proper nutrition for your three (or four) legged friend.  Steve Brown, author of “See Spot Live Longer,” has great articles about canine health and nutrition on his website, including:

elisoup.jpgHere is a great way to introduce your dog to a home cooked diet, if you haven’t already. My pal Sasha, Lalla’s mom, sent this to me:

This is the recipe for Turkey Neck Soup that my father Eli cooks for Lalla; he thought Jerry might enjoy it too. Lalla’s vet Andre says that Turkey necks are the best food for dogs, and that as far as he’s concerned, Lalla could live off ‘em alone – an opinion she definitely shares with him as she is transfixed by the result, and refuses to eat anything else as long as it’s available. Easy for them – they’re into meat. It is also very, very economical.

Ingredients:

  • Large turkey necks, cut into pieces
  • 3 carrots
  • 3 celery sticks or celery root
  • A piece of pumpkin (optional)
  • Parsley

Place turkey necks in large soup pot. Cover with water. Boil for 15-20 minutes. Scrap and discard any froth.  Bring to a boil and simmer on medium for 1 hour. Add pumpkin and parsley and cook for another 2 hours on a low light. When cool, strain soup and store in necks and soup in separate containers. Soup can also be poured over kibble.

Jerry Demands a Drink of Water in BedBeing a travelin’ dog is hard work. And hopping around on three legs all day tires me out a lot quicker than when I got around on all four paws. But that’s OK. It doesn’t mean I’m depressed; that’s just such a human thing. And it doesn’t necessarily mean I’m uncomfortable. It just means I’m tired.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t still need my exercise! It’s even more important for us three legged dogs to remain fit! Don’t go feeling sorry for us and just let us lie around all day. There’s plenty of time for that after chasing the chickens. Or squirrels if that may be the case for you.

Jerry Waits PatientlyThe weather forecast in Austin is looking pretty nasty for Saturday. As much fun as all that mud would be for us dogs, my people and the Big Dog have made a change of plans.

The 2 Dogs 2000 Miles Kickoff BBQ Party has been rescheduled for this Sunday, Feb. 17. We’ll still gather in Zilker Park’s Pecan Grove picnic area. And it will still be from 1:00 – 6:00.

We have also heard from a few other tripawds who plan to be there. Tell a friend! See y’all there …

Senior Dog Amputee BrackenA lot of people wonder whether or not the should put their senior dog through amputation and cancer treatments. Well, I want to share a story that we received the other day, about Bracken; a dog that was diagnosed with osteosarcoma at age 7, and lived to be fifteen years old! Here is her inspiring story, as told to us by Ruth, her human:

We’re working our way West and looking forward to meeting Hudson and Murphy this weekend at the cookout to help kick off their 2,000 mile walk with the Big Dog. We’ve finally nailed down a location in with some shelter just in case it’s raining.

Zilker Park Map

Join us from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. this Saturday, February 16 in the Pecan Grove picnic area at Zilker Park in Austin, TX. Pecan Grove is just East of the playscape to the left as you enter Zilker Park from Barton Springs Dr. This informal event is just a get-together to meet all the volunteers that are making this amazing walk for a cure possible.

Bring your leash and have your people bring some food for the grill or a side dish and some spare change if possible. The event is totally free and all are welcome but we will have a raffle for some of the SynFlex glucosamine supplement I’ve been taking as well as some other goodies. We will also be taking orders for the new Tripawds book now available! Stay tuned for more details on that. See y’all at there! Download PDF map of Zilker Park.
